Are you looking for a management role in a forward thinking and innovative authority? Tewkesbury Borough Council is facing some big challenges and has big ambitions.

We are currently recruiting an Environmental Health Manager with a can-do attitude and problem solving focus who will manage the environmental health and licensing teams.

The teams deal with all aspects of Environmental Health and Licensing including pollution control planning and licensing applications, environmental permitting, contaminated land, air quality and enviro-crime investigations, health and safety, food safety, private sector housing and all local authority licensing functions.

Located at the heart of the M5 economic growth corridor and with some world class businesses, Tewkesbury Borough Council is preparing to manage up to 40% of Gloucestershire’s entire growth so there is lots of new development and some regeneration taking place with associated input from the team including significant development/infrastructure projects.

You will also be the Council’s Emergency Planning Officer, liaising with the County Council, Police and relevant officers as appropriate, taking a lead in dealing with Borough Council responsibility in the event of emergencies.

Candidates will need to have a degree level or equivalent in environmental health and Membership of CIEH or equivalent. You will need to demonstrate practical experience of health & safety both as a regulator and employer and have proven management experience and familiarity with financial and budget management. The ability to bring innovation and focus on efficiencies is essential.

You will have autonomy to manage your workload in a modern open plan office with free parking and your professional fees paid. We can offer flexible working opportunities including flexible hours, part-time, job share and home-working. Work outside normal office hours is integral to the role.

For an informal discussion, please contact Peter Tonge, Head of Community Services, on 01684 272259.

Closing Date: Monday, 16 December 2019

Proposed Interview Date: w/c Monday, 13 January 2020

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

“The Council is committed to promoting equality of opportunity; we welcome applications from all sections of the community.”
