Position Summary

We have a number of exciting opportunities for Lead Transmission Operators. The successful candidates will be part of a team responsible for maintaining the scheduled play out of multiple transmission channels as well as the execution of live events.  They will also stand in for the Transmission Supervisor (TS), who is the primary contact for all transmission matters and is responsible for the identification, investigation and resolution of technical or operational issues.

This role is ideal for a Transmission Operator looking for that next exciting step up in their career. A perfect opportunity to still be involved in the day to day transmission operations whilst gaining an increased level of responsibility for the facility and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a multi-transmission Pod
  • Responsible for outgoing play lists and manual changes
  • Responsible for ensuring seamless playout of live events
  • Monitor outgoing feeds and maintains the on-air presence of the channels at all times for a multi-channel facility
  • Perform service recovery when required to minimise outages
  • Must react to automation warnings in the required manner
  • Raise any technical issues to the Transmission Supervisor or Management team
  • Confirmation of all schedule delivery to the Presentation team
  • Previewing and checking key material prior to air, as requested by the business
  • Reviewing staff and MFR allocations and escalating any issues or clashes
  • Testing of new technology alongside the Supervisors
  • Liaising with on-air teams to preview new functionality and branding
  • Identifies and requests missing materials
  • Preparing and testing for live events
  • Responsible for the integrity of as-run reports
  • Server and archive management
  • Ensure that any issues awaiting resolution are handed over to the next shift, and logged accurately
  • Assist and operate in other operational roles within the department as and when required
  • Attend department meetings when required
  • Responsible for ensuring all operational procedures are followed
  • Ensure that all aspects of Ofcom Codes of Practice relating to the channels are observed
  • Acting up in capacity of Transmission Supervisor with duties including:
  • Lead, motive and organise a team of shift Transmission Operators
  • Minimise the effects of technical failure on the business and ensure the failure is remedied as quickly as possible
  • Liaise with numerous departments and uplink providers
  • Producing reports detailing all issues
  • Responsible for exceptions planning and making decisions regarding late changes if necessary
  • Responsible for raising technical issues with support engineer and to ensure all details are captured and logged
  • Keep the operational area in good order to meet our own aspirations
  • Such other duties as the management may from time to time reasonably require

Requirements

  • Experience within a multi-channel, fully automated transmission environment
  • Considerable experience within a live sports transmission environment
  • A good operational knowledge of transmission technologies
  • Previous experience of Grass Valley iTX and Aveco automation is preferable
