We are currently recruiting for a MEP Manager for our Perry Bar project, based in Birmingham

Key Responsibilities

  • The M & E Manager will report to the Project Manager / Director on functional matters and will work within under the leadership of the Head of Building Services to produce, design reviews, method and time related information required for tenders, management of construction, completion and post construction obligations.
  • Will need to be keen and enthusiastic to work on site but not only manage from the site office but also carryout daily site inspections to assess actual progress without reliance on anyone else.
  • Will need to be able to understand building services including design principles, construction techniques, commissioning and handover requirements.
  • Will need to be able to communicate and cooperate with subcontractors, consultants and other team members to work as cohesive team.
  • Will assist commercial team with value engineering opportunities, variations and disputes.
  • The person will also be required at times to assist other team members with tender submissions, pre-construction activities.
  • Will need to understand health & safety rules and regulations, CDM and including company policies
  • Responsible to manage and lead Lendlease Mechanical and Electrical (M & E) team or major trade package on site.
  • Review design to ensure delivery is in compliance with the Employers Requirements.
  • Produce design scope of works as necessary to obtain consultant fee proposals.
  • Produce scope of works for M & E subcontractor tendering.
  • Review all tender submissions to ensure no scope gaps with offers received.
  • Coordination with client's representatives, design consultants and subcontractors.
  • Monitoring and management of the design within the framework of a design and construct contract.
  • Management and implementation of the design required to be installed subcontractor's through the construction phase.
  • Review design, procurement, construction and commissioning programs.
  • Chair M & E design, construction and completion meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain close liaison with our onsite construction team ensuring the delivery and monitoring of the works by the sub-contractor and their specialists.
  • Liaison with commercial managers to ensure cost control
  • Assist with developing commissioning strategy, program and close liaison with commissioning managers and technical authors in the setting to work of the systems and preparation of the O&M manuals and technical documentation for the end user.
  • Preparation and submission of M & E monthly progress reports.
  • Attend factory inspections and off-site factory acceptance testing of software systems as required.
  • Review with consultant all subcontractor technical submissions, functional design descriptions, samples, quality bench marking, mock up, etc before submission to client.
  • Manage, coordinate all completion activities such as; commissioning, operating & maintenance manuals, sustainability and requirements of Building Information Management systems
  • Assist with successful handover to the client and all post completion soft landing requirements.


Knowledge and Experience

  • Preferably qualified with a degree in building services, or mechanical or electrical engineering, will consider relevant HNC or HND qualifications.
  • Extensive experience particularly in the London area with high rise & or high end residential, commercial office, energy centres and or Hospital experience.
  • Will report directly to the onsite Project Manager / Director.
  • Will be responsible to manage on site MEP subcontractors and consultants.
  • Excellent command of the English language, understanding of technical specifications, drawings, programs and produce reports.
  • The place of work will be site based located on a construction site.
  • Will need to be able to understand building services including design principles, construction techniques, commissioning and handover requirements.
  • Will need to be able to communicate and cooperate with subcontractors, consultants and other team members to work as cohesive team.
  • Will assist commercial team with value engineering opportunities, variations and disputes.
  • The person will also be required at times to assist other team members with tender submissions, pre-construction activities.
  • Will need to understand health & safety rules and regulations, CDM and including company policies
  • Background in design, construction & delivery process including design management experience with a main contractor on projects above £30m in value
  • Knowledge of design principles and experience in project delivery
  • Commercial and financial understanding in the above context - ability to contribute to value engineering as part of the design process
  • Extensive experience in construction, including a sound knowledge of Construction methodology, process and sequence
  • Experience of User group interface and stakeholder engagement

Educational Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Recognised disciplines include; Civil engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying or similar building related studies.
  • Professional memberships; CIOB, RICS, CIBSE or similar affiliation
