Job description

As the Corporate Administrator, you will play a critical part in ensuring the DfT response team have effective administrative support to enable and improve duty response capability. You’ll provide critical support across all aspects of the divisions work, covering counter terrorism, civil contingencies and EU Exit.

Transport Security, Resilience and Response (TSRR) leads on national security matters, ranging from counter terrorism and cyber security to planning for and responding to natural hazards or civil contingencies. We deliver expertise to support security and resilience policy teams whilst also providing the department's 24/7 response for all security or civil contingency incidents. The team works with security and intelligence partners from across government to mitigate risk to the UK’s transport sector.

The Directorate is a major player in delivering both the Government's counter-terrorism strategy (CONTEST), and the department’s aim of a transport system that works for everyone and balances the needs of society, the environment and the economy. A key factor in that aim is to deliver a safe and secure travelling environment.

Transport Security Operations Centre (TSOC)

The DfT’s Transport Security Operations Centre (TSOC) is the central team within DfT and has a key role in preparing for, and responding to, incidents and emergencies – both security and civil contingencies related. The team is responsible for developing and maintaining crisis response processes and facilities, co-ordinating the departmental operational response to incidents and oversight of the Department’s involvement in the cross-Government exercise programme.

As the Corporate Administrator within TSOC, you will play a critical part in ensuring the DfT response team have effective administrative support to enable and improve duty response capability. The post holder will provide critical support across all aspects of the divisions work, covering counter terrorism, civil contingencies and EU Exit.

Additionally, TSOC plays a crucial role in the Department’s emergency response mechanisms. You therefore may be required to participate in the Department’s response to a security or civil contingencies incident. This may include out of hours working on occasion but we make every effort to allow for your personal circumstances.

Transport Security, Response and Resilience invests significantly in training and developing staff to prepare them not just for an interesting and challenging job, but also for a rewarding career in the Government security profession. Our expectation is that our staff will remain in post for at least two years.

Responsibilities

In the role you’ll provide professional office administrative support across a range of tasks including management of Deputy Directors diaries and general corporate support.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Developing and maintaining administrative systems to ensure efficient management of general/specific work assignments/projects
• Prioritising work and managing time effectively, balancing conflicting priorities where necessary, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard within the specified deadlines. To promptly identify potential problems and present suggested solutions to line manager
• Effective diary management, horizon scanning to anticipate workloads, remaining aware of changing priorities to ensure the right balance between activities to enable the senior leaders time to carry out the full range of their duties
• Providing a professional service to both internal and external contacts ensuring that information and advice is given in an organised and professional manner
• Creating and maintaining electronic filing systems, databases and distribution lists
