Role Overview

An exciting opportunity exists for a Head of HSEQ role to join our prestigious Wales & Borders project, based out of Treforest.

Transport for Wales (TfW) awarded KeolisAmey the multi-billion-pound Wales & Borders contract to run the country's rail network and manage the core valley lines infrastructure including some amazing projects. This is the biggest ever contract to be awarded in Wales and Amey are working closely with TfW to deliver a new era for passengers and for Wales, with more services, newer trains, better stations and a more reliable network.

As Head of HSEQ your role will encompass two key areas of work; infrastructure management, and a 5-year project including: a new rail depot at Taffs Well to stable and service train and operate the network, refurbishment of stations to enhance passenger experience and the electrification of a significant amount of the rail network to reduce travel time and allow use of new metro carriages.

You will have support on both sides of works from 2 project advisors, and an HSEQ Manager with 2 project advisors respectively. Each team member will report to you, and you will also therefore be responsible for supporting their development. Day to day tasks will include:

  • Being part of the Leadership team and strategic guidance, advice and decision making;
  • Managing project contractors and Amey staff; ensuring they are upskilled on all HSEQ requirements;
  • Providing specific construction and rail HSEQ expertise to project teams and managers;
  • Developing and deploying agile management systems and ensuring these are updated and fit for purpose;
  • Work with support service teams to assure the business that risks are being managed, strategic and contractual obligations are being met;
  • Provide data to and work alongside environment and sustainability professionals to ensure best practice and adherence to Amey policies.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Head of HSEQ who will utilise their business acumen, engaging communication and influencing style to promote Health, Safety, Environment , Sustainability and Quality and provide expert support across our leadership team. Ideally you will be a 'Chartered' Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) however, the essential minimum professional requirements should be GradIOSH or degree equivalent and working towards being Chartered.

You will have a proven track record of providing HSEQ expertise within a safety critical environment in the rail industry. A PTS qualification would be very advantageous.
