Do you enjoy working with young people and want to help prevent them from becoming homeless? This is your opportunity to be part of an exciting service working with young people, as a Support Worker.

Position: Support Worker - Young People

Location: Kensington and Chelsea, London
Hours: Monday to Sunday 8-4, 9-5 or 12-8. Part-time 37.5 hours a week (a full-time week is 39 hours which is why this post is officially classed as part-time)

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £21,395.40 pro-rata per annum after 1 year

The charity’s service provides housing related support and interventions to 46 service users with a range of issues living in 6 accommodation services across the Borough. The service is for young people aged 16-25 years with housing and support needs. These young people may be leaving local authority care, be homeless, threatened with homelessness or living in accommodation that is not meeting their identified needs. The service provides ‘step up’ or ‘step down’ from other supported accommodation, as appropriate.

The Role

Promoting independence and preventing dependency, institutional admission and homelessness, the service delivers a person centred approach enabling choice and control for each individual to realise their potential, increasing service users’ ability to manage their tenures, supporting access to training, education and employment. It also works closely with other providers of support to the individuals including other professional staff and family members.

About You

As Support Worker, you will have:

 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Creative Problem-Solving skills including Conflict Resolution.
  • Organisation and Planning skills to deliver multiple priorities to tight deadlines.
  • Creativity in engaging residents to co-produce initiatives to engage individuals via activity and event planning.
  • The ability to use a range of approaches to ensure effective person-centred support planning.
  • The ability to maximise independence by motivating and supporting service users towards their goals.
  • The ability to travel and work across the services when required.
  • Working knowledge of Welfare Benefits.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately.
