Position Summary

This role will support the Broadcast Graphics requirements for the EMEA channels that are managed from the London Technology Hub in Chiswick, London. These graphics air from multiple platforms including Evertz OTB, Pixel Power, Vertigo and Viz and the channels include:

Discovery Networks Europe – Over 100 Channels across, Europe, the Middle East and Africa including brands such as Discovery, TLC, ID, Science, HGTV, Animal Planet, and DPlay.

Discovery Network Northern Europe – Free-to-air channels across the Nordic region.

Eurosport – Specifically focused on the UK & Nordic market that covers a range of Live and pre-recorded sports and highlights packages.

The primary purpose of this role is to manage the day-to-day Live Ads requirements alongside launching new initiatives, systems, workflows & processes and then other technical special projects as required.

Although weighted in the coding of templates on bespoke systems and management of databases, the role requires understanding of design and interpreting documents/files from the motion graphics/design departments.

Thinking outside the box and coming up with unique solutions is required, often in a very short amount of time. You will be working closely with broadcast engineering, IT systems and IT networking. Lastly, an organised work ethic is critical, as often your work is used by others and by machines.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the live ads systems along with ad hoc special projects
  • Designing workflows to handle code compatibility across graphics systems.
  • Problem solving around optimization and getting elements to work in real time.
  • Occasional creating of graphic elements to service the template creation process.
  • Creating, modifying and managing multiple databases systems.
  • Writing new code or modifying existing code to work with new and old templates.
  • Developing new software to integrate with and support our systems and workflows.
  • Work with Media Engineering and the Transmission team to test and implement new graphics.
  • Work with local teams and external agencies to produce the work and get any required approvals.
  • Handling last minute requests and queries.

Ad Hoc:

  • Assisting department leads, Supervisors and European Broadcast Graphics Director when required
  • Offering cover for other team members in sickness, holiday and any other absence
  • Sharing in the upkeep and management of all shared departmental documents/folders

Requirements

  • Proven experience with JavaScript, VB or Python scripting.
  • Other coding languages are a plus.
  • Experience in plugin and API development advantageous.
  • Some experience in a broadcast production environment.
  • It would be good to have experience with any or all of:
    • Pixel Power Clarity
    • Grass Valley Vertigo
    • Viz Artist
    • Any other broadcast graphics system a plus
  • Some knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Understanding of video and image file formats.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure to a tight deadline.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Organized, methodical and systematic.
  • Team Player.
