We’re looking for a Senior User Interaction Designer to join our expanding Digital Service team at the Department of Transport (DfT). You will have the opportunity to work out of either our London or Hastings offices, and regular interaction and travel will be required between both.

As a Senior User Interaction Designer, you will support the Head of User Research and Design in leading the growing User Interaction discipline in the Digital Service as well as shaping the design of DfT’s digital services and products.

This is a people-centred role and will typically suit an individual with superb interpersonal skills.
Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Shaping the design of DfT’s digital services and products.
• Leading the development of DfT’s full interaction design life cycle.
• Combining understanding of users and knowledge of digital trends to improve service design.
• Resolving potential conflicts between user requirements and usability standards.
• Refining interaction design solutions in response to user-centred evaluation and feedback.

Responsibilities

About You

We are looking for a confident communicator who holds a good understanding and experience of using user interaction design methods. You will hold a proven track record in a similar role and hold experience and be competent in:

• Managing stakeholders’ expectations and facilitating difficult discussions within a team/ with diverse senior stakeholders.
• Identifying and implementing solutions for assisted digital.
• Using a variety of methods of prototyping and creating/ validating dynamic prototypes.
• Reviewing strategic service designs end-to-end.
• Giving direction on which tools and methods to use for interaction design work.
• Applying strategic thinking about how to provide the best service for the end user.
• Working collaboratively within a group.

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.

The sift is due to take place Week Commencing 17th February.

Interviews/assessments are likely to be held Week Commencing 2nd March.

Interviews will likely be held in London.

Our office location is currently under review and a new office location will be decided in 2020. Our current office is based in Ashdown House Whilst it is likely that our new office location will also be in Hastings town centre , this may be subject to change and staff will be informed as soon as possible once a new location is confirmed.
