What is the purpose of this role?

An opportunity is available for you to join a field-based team working within the East Midlands area, to repair, maintain, inspect and test Highways England (HE) technology assets on the Motorways, Trunk Roads, and within the operations centre.

HE assets type include, but are not limited to, Message Signs, Signals, CCTV, Roadside Telephones, Incident Detection Systems, Radar, ANPR, Traffic Counting Equipment, Weather Recording Stations, Traffic Signals.

Reporting to the team Supervisor, you will work 40 hours per week, as a 'mobile' worker. In line with business needs you may be required to work overtime, and be part of a standby rota, both would provide further salary enhancements.

The role requires Day, Night and some weekend work.

Company Vehicle (with private use), Fuel Card, Laptop, Phone, Tools/Equipment will be provided.

What will this role involve?

  • Reactive fault assessment and complete repair
  • Carry out planned and preventative maintenance
  • Complete Electrical inspection and testing (initial and periodic)
  • Installation of assets
  • Commission and/or reconfigure assets
  • Supervision of 3rd parties
  • Spares correctly allocated
  • Complete all required documentation, including test sheets, fault logs, database updates
  • Provide update to all relevant parties and share information
  • Comply with company policies and procedures
  • Undertake training as required
  • Provide training as required
  • Be professional to internal and external customers, to promote a positive company image

Ensuring service level agreements are achieved.



What we are looking for.

Essential: Electrical Competence (At least 17th Edition)

Flexible: working days, nights, weekends, on standby/call as required.

Be self-motivated, with integrity, a 'can do' attitude, demonstrate good time management qualities, show honesty and reliability, have commitment to high standards and be able to work individually and as part of a team.

Proven aptitude for learning, and willingness to continue learning growth. Take responsibility to identify training needs. Work effectively and diligently to achieve completion of training goals/targets.

Good health and attendance record.

Clear and effective communication skills.

Microsoft Office Skills (specifically Excel, Outlook, Word).

Already have or be willing to complete a HEA NHSS8 Accreditation (Highways Communications, Traffic Signals and Highways Electrical), plus a related Level 3 HEA NVQ.

Provide training to other team members where applicable and as required.

Full UK driving licence (max 6 points) and be willing to drive daily to multiple sites over the whole region.

Desirable:

Knowledge and experience working on HE Technology assets

Knowledge and experience working with Siemens, Peek and Motus Traffic Signals.

Good working knowledge of the HE environment, working in open Motorway and Trunk road areas, and within traffic management.

  • First Aid (Emergency First Aid at Work)
  • Manual Handling
  • Safe Isolation & G39
  • Power Tools
  • Working at height
  • Inspection and Use of Steps and Ladders
  • PASMA Low Level (Podium) Inspection and Use
  • IPAF 1b (MEWP Use)
  • Slinger Signaller
  • Fibre Optic Testing / Slicing
  • HIAB driver / operator
  • LGV Class 2 with current CPC
  • SSSTS or SMSTS
