Job description

In this brand-new role, you will be responsible for leading and managing a Maritime Operations team within the national network utilising planning skills at the Operational level to achieve tactical / strategic benefit. Leading and managing the operational teams to deliver the Coastguard functions within the UK and within a defined national or international area.
 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• The role holder is responsible for leading and managing their operational teams
• Responsible for delivering sound leadership and management for their operational team and division
• Accountable to the Controller for the operational delivery of six Coastguard functions.
• Providing operational response for SAR, Counter Pollution and emergency and disaster management operations.
• Managing the effective provision of a vessel traffic monitoring service for their team
• Responsible for reviewing management information systems for their teams
• Responsible for ensuring that a culture of safety is maintained at all times
• Participate in investigations, reviewing reports, policy documents and other papers as required
• Responsible for the management for Senior Maritime Operations Officers and Maritime Operations Officers within their operational teams
• Deliver the six Coastguard Functions for the area of responsibility
• Planning, prioritising and managing work load on dynamic risk assessments.
• Balancing work against resource
• Effectively manage absence within their teams
• Provision of accurate management information to inform the Divisional Management Team

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom working to prevent the loss of lives at sea and is responsible for implementing British and international maritime law and safety policy. It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.
