You will be involved in changes and emerging issues that are happening in the country now with the unique opportunity to be involved in the outcome of new policy.

Based in either London or Hasting within the Aviation Directorate in the Department for Transport, there are 3 teams that we are recruiting for which all deliver vital aspects of UK Aviation policy:

Aviation Consumer and Financial Protection
General Aviation, Safety, Skills and CAA Oversight
EU Negotiations

There will be a requirement for some travel in these roles.
 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

The precise role and responsibilities will depend upon successful candidate’s strengths, interests and development objectives, as well as the Department’s ongoing business requirements.

Aviation Consumer and Financial Protection
This role will cover a range of responsibilities which will include:
Implementing changes in insolvency law for aviation.
Undertaking projects, looking at devising new powers and developing new legislation.
Learning from past lessons, assessing what could be done differently moving forward.

General Aviation, Safety, Skills and CAA Oversight
This role will cover a range of responsibilities which will include:
Overseeing rules and regulations for small aircraft such as small private planes, gliders etc.
Reviewing and refreshing skills policy to ensure the right skills are coming through in to the industry.

EU Negotiations
This role will cover a range of responsibilities which will include:
Assessing air traffic agreements, resulting in the development of policy objectives, maximising opportunity.

This summer, we’ll be moving from Ashdown House - our home in Hastings for a considerable number of years - and moving to a new, more modern and flexible office space at One Priory Square, in the town centre, on a 10-year lease.

This move will enable us to create a brilliant, more inclusive workspace for everyone – with much improved accessibility and much better public transport links. And, one that’s in line with the standards of the wider modernisation programme.

Selection Process

The sift is due to take place week commencing 6th April 2020.

Interviews/assessments are likely to be held 22nd April 2020.

We will try to meet the dates set out in the advert. There may be occasions when these dates will change. You will be provided with sufficient notice of the confirmed dates.

The selection process will be designed specifically for the role. As a result, your assessment could include:
• an interview
• an interview with one or more exercises (for example presentation, written exercise, role play or other) – if unknown at the time of launch (in exceptional circumstances only)
• an interview and insert type of exercise (eg presentation, written exercise etc)
• a full day of activities including interactive, written and timed exercises

Your interview may consist of a range of question types. These may include questions about:

You’re encouraged to become familiar with the role profile, as you may be assessed against any of the criteria recorded within.

Further Information

We may hold a merit list for up to twelve months. During this time, if a similar role is identified and you have been placed on the merit list you may be considered for the post. Within the merit list period, your application form and selection information may be shared across the department and its agencies.

A reserve list may be held for a period of 12 months from which further appointments can be made.

If successful and transferring from another Government Department a criminal record check maybe carried out.
