Independent Member of Audit and Risk Committee

Help us to deliver 'More homes, great services, better lives'

Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) is looking for an Independent Member to join the Audit and Risk Committee.

Position: Independent Member of Audit and Risk Committee

Location: Sherwood Rise, Nottingham

Salary: £2,647 per annum

Hours: 4 scheduled meetings per annum, completion of mandatory training and appraisals and other ad hoc requirements from time to time

Closing date: 6th July 2020, 12 noon

NCHA is a unique, complex, successful and innovative not for profit organisation. We manage over 9,500 homes, house more than 20,000 people and employ approximately 1,200 colleagues in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. In partnership with 30 local authorities, we build new affordable homes to meet local needs. This includes homes for sale, rent, shared ownership and ‘try before you buy’ schemes.

The Association is governed by a Board of Management who are collectively responsible for ensuring the success of NCHA by directing the Association’s affairs and determining its strategic aims.

Our Board has had a proud history of achieving a mix of members from diverse backgrounds, and we are currently looking to recruit an Independent Member for our Risk and Audit Committee.

Purpose of the role:

As an Independent Member of Audit and Risk Committee, you will provide assurance to the Association’s Board regarding internal controls and risk management systems, the internal audit function, external audit and statutory accounts, along with other matters relating to regulation, governance, fraud and confidential reporting.

In addition you will also:

  • Review statutory accounts and the appointment and performance of the external auditors
  • Review the high level risk framework and provide assurance to the Board regarding the Risk Management Strategy, Risk Maps, Risk appetite and tolerances
  • Contribute to deep dive risk reviews of key business risk areas
  • Review stress testing and mitigation plans for the Group’s long-term financial projections
  • Review the Group Assets and Liabilities Register and other reports on regulation, governance or compliance matters

About You:

You will have a full understanding of how a Board operates and be able to work effectively in a team. The ability and willingness to communicate your views clearly and objectively will be second nature to you.

You will have a clear understanding of the issues facing the Housing and Care sectors along with a strong commitment and empathy with the aims, values and objectives of the Association.

You will understand the needs of diverse communities; including people with disabilities and those who are socially disadvantaged.

Moreover, you will have experience in one or more of these areas: financial management; risk management; audit or assurance; regulation of the social housing sector and be able to demonstrate sound independent judgment.

New board members will join a successful Board and contribute to the development of a dynamic and well run organisation.

If you’ve got a passion for housing and/or social care and either live within the East Midlands or have a strong current understanding of the housing challenges faced by the region, then we’d love to hear from you.

As a Disability Confident and Equal Opportunities Employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates, including those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups and disabled candidates. We particularly welcome applications from women, as they are currently under represented on our board.
