Associate Board Member

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate Board Member to join Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA)’s Board.

Position: Associate Board Member

Location: Sherwood Rise, Nottingham

Salary: £2,647 per annum

Hours: Minimum of eight afternoon meetings per year

Closing date: 6th July 2020

Who are we?

Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA), was founded in 1973. We are an agile, forward thinking organisation committed to providing and managing housing for people in need, as well as offering vital care and support services. We manage over 9,500 homes, house more than 20,000 people and employ approximately 1,200 colleagues in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. In partnership with 30 local authorities, we build new affordable homes to meet local needs. This includes homes for sale, rent, shared ownership and ‘try before you buy’ schemes.

The Association is governed by a Board of Management who are collectively responsible for ensuring the success of NCHA by directing the Association’s affairs and determining its strategic aims.

Our Board has a proud history of having a mix of members from diverse backgrounds; with diverse expertise. To continue this trend, we are now looking to recruit an Associate Board Member with specialist knowledge gained at least at level 4 in an area that will contribute to organisational aims and objectives (e.g. Housing, Social Policy, Social Work, Health and Social Care, Accountancy, Business Studies, Law, Architecture or Construction).

About the role:

You will work with the Board of Management to ensure the Association’s compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations, as well as scrutinising the performance of management of the Association. You will contribute in taking key strategic decisions, setting strategic aims and providing entrepreneurial leadership of the Association

About You:

You will have a clear understanding of the issues facing the Housing and Care sectors along with a strong commitment and empathy with the aims, values and objectives of the association. You will have specialist knowledge gained at least at level 4 in either Housing, Social Policy, Social Work, Health and Social Care, Accountancy, Business Studies, Law, Architecture or Construction.

Finally, you must be committed to the role and willing to devote the necessary time and effort to meet board requirements; including involvement with sub-committee(s) during afternoons and evenings and have an understanding of the needs of diverse communities, including people with disabilities and those who are socially disadvantaged.

If you live within the East Midlands or have a strong understanding of the challenges faced by the region, we’d love to hear from you.

You will be joining a successful Board and making a contribution to our vision of “More Homes, Great Services, Better Lives”.

As a Disability Confident and Equal Opportunities Employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates, including those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups and disabled candidates. We particularly welcome applications from women, as they are currently under represented on our board.
