Advocacy Team Leader

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a caring and committed individual with a passion for justice, to join a thriving community hub and resource centre as an Advocacy Team Leader.

 

Position: Advocacy Team Leader

Location: Cross Green, Leeds

Hours: 35 hours per week (flexible working considered)

Salary: £25,801 - £28,785 pro rata, annual review and increment within scale               

Contract: 18-month initial contract with extension subject to further funding

The Role

The organisation runs a number of community facing and strategic projects to achieve aims including advocacy, community development and youth work. Recognised as being innovative, brave and creative, the overall aim is to improve quality of life for Gypsies and Travellers through addressing inequalities in homes, health, education, and employment, financial and social inclusion.

 

The Advocacy Team Leader will:

  • Co-ordinate, develop and provide a high quality, accessible advocacy service across West Yorkshire.
  • Help provide information, signposting and support to Gypsy and Traveller individuals/families.
  • Work holistically to improve wellbeing, promoting and supporting self-advocacy.
  • Build strong and trusting relationships to members, making every contact count.
  • Be a deputy safeguarding officer for the organisation.
  • Lead a small staff team and ensure effective processes, recording and evaluation of the service.
  • Work with a range of partner agencies across West Yorkshire.

About You

As Advocacy Team Leader, you will be able to encourage, inspire and help people to build on their own strengths. You will be solution focussed, creative, brave and ready to make an impact within the community.

 

You will bring you experience of:

  • Safeguarding Adults and Children Training to a manager level.
  • Domestic Violence and Abuse Training.
  • Knowledge of advocacy principles and practice.
  • Working with vulnerable people and within a safeguarding framework.
  • Leading a team and managing staff / volunteers – supervision, attendance, projects and development.
  • Up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and rights in relation to housing, welfare, family, health and equalities.
  • Working with external agencies supporting families experiencing domestic abuse.
  • Risk management and associated processes.

 

You will be:

  • Committed to person centred working and able to build trusting and effective relationships.
  • Be able to develop partnerships based on shared goals and values. 
  • Resilient with an awareness of self-care and be able to have challenging conversations.

 

To fulfil this role, you will need to be able to drive and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
