Job description

We are looking a Policy Adviser to join ICCAN.

ICCAN was established last year as an Advisory Non-Departmental Public Body to become a credible and authoritative voice on aviation noise issues.

The objective of ICCAN is to bring together industry, communities and the Government to ensure best practice is followed and information is shared and communicated in an accessible way. It will aim to identify any improvements needed to industry methods of assessing and mitigating noise impacts and will give communities a greater stake on aviation noise issues.

As a Policy Adviser in the team, you will be integral in taking the evidence provided from data analysis and/or consultations and turning it into robust recommendations delivered in reports to the Commissioners, Government and others.
 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities Include:

• Working closely with both colleagues in ICCAN and aviation sector stakeholders to identify and make recommendations on the key challenges within the aviation noise debate
• Delivering high quality policy development based on a robust evidence base
• Supporting ICCAN’s senior management in delivering its corporate strategy
• Collaborating with the communications team within ICCAN to interpret and communicate complex issues to a variety of audiences
• Supporting ICCAN’s business management function in procuring and delivering external research commissions.

This vacancy is open to full or part-time (minimum of 0.8 FTE basis) applicants. These hours can be flexible throughout the working week which can be arranged with your line manager. It can also be available on secondment with the agreement of both employers.

About you
The successful post holder will have previous experience of working with stakeholders, understanding their issues and maintaining content quality with the ability to think strategically and set the agenda for others. You will have good policy, project management, presentation, report writing and communication skills, with the ability to pick up technical issues at pace and work within a multi-disciplinary team. This is a public-facing independent body, and you must have an ability to bring together policy considerations with an understanding of commercial and implementation practicalities. You will have strong analytical skills and be able to understand and translate findings to inform judgements , recommendations and develop policy, with ability to communicate this in a way that can be clearly understood. You will be leading on a variety of projects and work streams, therefore it's import you are confident leading on projects and are able to motivate others to meet time frames and ensure differing needs of others are met.

While it is not essential knowledge or experience in one of local government, planning, acoustics or environmental policy is also desirable.
