Job description

The DVLA deliver wide reaching digital services to the UK public and industry. We maintain the national record of vehicles and drivers which means we reach over 40 million people a year. If you have applied for a driving licence, changed vehicle, relicensed your vehicle or completed a vehicle enquiry you would have used one of our services.

The Junior Developer role is based within one of the Software Engineering Applications Development and Support teams, within Output Services Group. The team perform the development and support of DVLA’s applications both internal and public/customer facing. The role holder will work as part of a flexible software delivery team working in a variety of styles, including Agile.

If successful, you will be required to work across both OSG sites (Morriston & Ty Felin, Fforestfach). OSG is a 24hour, 5 day a week operation serving both internal business areas but also wider Government departments such as Home Office, DVA, DVSA and GDS.
 

Responsibilities

As part of your role, you will be expected to:

• work on technical implementation of applications and on larger projects, work within a technical framework of the project to meet customer requirements
• participate in software development using both recognised and/or specialist programming languages and technologies
• conduct unit testing of developed applications against agreed standards
• unit testing of developed applications, using automated test tools where appropriate
• participate continuous improvement and defect fixes that can be carried out to improve application performance
• support the creation of standardised documentation following the agreed standards and processes

About you
You will have technical ability to develop software applications for a dynamic print house working with the core language of Java and Linux.

You will have the ability to gain rapport quickly with your colleagues and stakeholders, as you look to build strong and effective working relationships.

You’ll have a strong focus on continual improvement with the ability to create, pilot and implement enhancements to our current application and processes.

Qualifications

Related Computer Science Degree or a recognised IT qualification.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths, Experience and Technical skills.
