About Us

We are the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, an organisation that protects, enhances, and promotes the immense beauty, wildlife, and character of the Yorkshire Dales.

Set against expansive heather moorland tops, each valley has its own distinct charm, from crags and pavements to an underground labyrinth of caves. The Yorkshire Dales has recently been voted number one of Europe’s National parks by users of Tripadvisor.

We are now looking for a funded part-time Youth Volunteering Officer post until March 2022.

The Benefits

- Salary of £23,080 - £29,578 per annum, pro rata
- Local government pension
- Employee discounts on various goods and services
- Cycle to work scheme
- Free parking
- Generous leave entitlement

This is an amazing opportunity to make a difference by creating and delivering opportunities for young people to connect with nature and the outdoors and to encourage new groups to see their career aspirations in the environment and outdoor learning sector.

The role is funded as part of the Generation Green Project, a project which aims to connect young people to nature, create jobs and build an aspirant workforce for a green recovery. The project is run by the Access Unlimited coalition supported by a c.£2.5 million Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The coalition comprises YHA (England & Wales), The Outward Bound Trust, Scouts, Girl Guiding, Field Studies Council and the 10 English National Parks.

The Role

The Youth Volunteering Officer, working 28 hours per week, will develop and deliver opportunities for young people to volunteer with the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority across all areas of our work.

As well as delivering hands-on practical opportunities for young people, this role will work strategically to develop partnerships with other organisations and within the authority to identity opportunities for young people to be involved.

The environment workforce is one of the least diverse workforces in England and this role has a specific remit to look at ways to respond to this challenge.

About You

To be considered as Youth Volunteering Officer, you will need:

- A degree level education, ideally in a youth work discipline
- Experience of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Experience of working collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders
- Strong communication and organisation skills
We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates as this group are currently under-represented throughout the Authority.

Other organisations may call this role Youth Officer, Community Officer, Youth Engagement Officer, or Engagement Officer.

The closing date for this role is the 14th February 2021.
