The overall aim of the Project Assistant post is to work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Research Delivery Support Assistant to undertake guided research. The role will oversee and perform administrative functions concerned with the project. This will include events planning and coordination, social media, marketing, and liaising with partners and stakeholders.

This is a varied role that responds to communication needs across the project spanning events, publicity, news, social media content and publications. The post holder will have a broad audience of staff, students, alumni and the wider public. Candidates should have demonstrable administrative experience and experience of managing events, excellent communication skills with the ability to write and copy-edit for a range of purposes, styles and audiences and using social media effectively in a professional context.

The duties and responsibilities are:

1. Offer day-to-day project delivery support to the Principal Investigators (PI) and Research Delivery Support Assistant to ensure efficient and effective project delivery against a tight schedule and within the allocated budget.

2. Plan own day-to-day events activity, co-ordinate own work with that of others and contribute to the planning of research projects.

3. Participate as a member of a team including working with others to influence and impact communities and local artists

4. Develop internal and external contacts to further knowledge and understanding, contribute to knowledge exchange events and form relationships for future collaboration

5. Contribute to develop an understanding of cultural, linguistic, professional and personal ways of interacting, communicating and working with others in a working environment.

6. Contribute to the delivery of activities as part of University community engagement or local partnership programmes.

7. Liaise with consortium partners and sub-contractors to ensure work package scheduling is in place, that key milestones are met and that deliverables are achieved to the desired standard. Work with partners to identify slippage and escalate any issues.

8. Schedule all procurement required for the project, following procurement guidelines (for example capital expenditure, travel etc.) and notify the procurement department in a timely manner.

9. Monitor all project activity against the work programmes and produce regular status reports for the project team. Where necessary escalate any risks or issues to the PI or a senior member of the Research Management and Administration Unit and support necessary recovery action.

Person Specification:

Postgraduate Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Humanities, Art and Culture, Art History, Cultural History, Anthropology, Material Cultures, Sociology) or equivalent experience

Experience of project management/assistant skills for public events, online promotion, social media, copywriting.

Experience of community engagement

Knowledge or interest in Black studies, history, heritage, art and culture.

Highly developed communication ability, particularly related to providing advice and making recommendations diplomatically with internal and external colleagues.

Good writing ability, including the ability to proofread/edit documents.

High level of computer literacy.

Excellent numeracy skills and a high level of attention to detail.

Highly developed ability to assimilate knowledge and master new skills rapidly.
