Location

Multi-location from one of our FSA Offices (Belfast, Cardiff, Birmingham, London or York), or home based in the UK. Regular travel to the York Office required. Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not overseas

About the job Summary

The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people, with a big vision – to drive change in the food system so that it delivers “food we can trust”. Our primary goal is to continue to protect public health and consumers’ wider interest in food. As we have now exited the EU the FSA faces a significant period of change and activity.

Job description

The Commercial Team will play a major role during this time. The FSA spends over £80m each year on external contracts. These enable us to carry out vital research and scientific projects, bring in external support to help our teams across the Agency, and generally ensure that the FSA is always in the best position possible to keep the nation’s food safe.

The Commercial Officer is involved with every element of our work, supporting the procurement cycle, identifying opportunities to improve our approach, and developing the way we work. The Commercial Officer role can be challenging but is immensely rewarding. Though flexibility is often key in an environment that has peaks of activity and tight deadlines to work to, the successful candidate will see the results of their work in action and will share with the team a great sense of achievement.

The role will enable the holder to achieve the Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) qualification, an industry-recognised standard that is held in high regard and will be a firm foundation upon which to further build a career in procurement.

The successful candidate needs to be an excellent team worker who is able to juggle priorities to ensure that work is completed in a timely and impactful manner. It will be vital, too, that candidates are confident communicators who will be able to use these skills to ensure the Agency gets the best out of external contractors. If you believe you will be a strong fit for this role, apply today.
