The UK Ship Register (UKSR) team works to promote the UK Flag worldwide to fulfil the mission to be the world’s best performing international flag. The UK Flag has been implementing a progressive strategy putting it at the centre of the fundamental changes disrupting the global maritime sector; namely decarbonisation and technological innovation. It is now able to accelerate growth through its customer-centric mindset and by continuing the development of its high-performing, commercially astute team.

We are currently in search for a dynamic new Business Development Manager to deliver growth. The role will need to identify opportunities, deepen relationships with existing customers and develop those of appropriate prospects. You will bring excellent personal customer service experience and a clear process and the successful delivery of a full opportunity pipeline that will be applied to grow the UK Flag.

This rewarding role will allow you to contribute to the Maritime & Coastguard’s Agency mission to be a world-leading organisation, accelerating the transition to sustainable shipping with non-negotiable safety standards.
 

Responsibilities

Roles Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

• Taking ownership and management of the UKSR Stakeholder Map.
• Delivering the strategies as set out in MCAs development plan, achieving sustained growth in the size of the UK Flag.
• Leading and building relationships at appropriate levels with ship owners/operators.
• Collaborating across UKMS and establishing productive relationships with colleagues in the new Directorate of Maritime Business Development.
• Leading the development of sales offices and teams worldwide.
• Being an ambassador for the UK Ship Register at local, national and international events.

About You

To thrive in this role, you will possess first class verbal and written communication qualities, with an eye for quality customer service. You will hold experience in forging strong working relationships with a variety of customers, to the benefit of your respective business.

We would love to hear from individuals with a successful track record in front-facing customer and client relations within the maritime sector, including successful development using a contemporary customer relationship management (CRM) system. This will ideally be combined with a working knowledge of Flag State responsibilities and statutory functions of audit, examination, survey and/or inspection.

As part of this position, you will have the chance to join either of the below pension schemes:

• The Alpha career average pension scheme (defined benefit). That has an annual accrual rate of 2.32% of salary and an employer contribution rate of up to 30.3% dependent upon pensionable salary. Employee contributions are also based upon your salary and contribution rates and further benefits you could receive as a Civil Servant can be found on the Civil Service Pension Website.

• We also offer an occupational pension scheme called Partnership (defined contribution). You do not have to make any payments to have a Partnership pension account as your employer will make an age related contributions of up to 14.75% (based upon your age). If you do choose to contribute, your employer will match your contributions up to a further 3% of pensionable salary. Selection process details

Company

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom working to prevent the loss of lives at sea and is responsible for implementing British and international maritime law and safety policy. It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.

Its responsibilities include coordinating search and rescue (SAR) on the coastline and at sea through His Majesty's Coastguard (HMCG), ensuring that ships meet international and UK safety standards, monitoring and preventing coastal water pollution and testing and issuing Merchant Navy Certificates of Competency (licences) for ships' officers and crew to STCW requirements The organisation is led by Virginia McVea, its Chief Executive, who took up post in February 2023.The MCA are chiefly responsible for the syllabus and national training standards issued by the Merchant Navy Training Board (based at the UK Chamber of Shipping).
