Job Details

Location

Multi-location from one of our FSA Offices (Belfast, Cardiff, Birmingham, London or York), or home based in the UK. Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not overseas. Travel across the UK maybe required on an occasional basis, possibly with overnight stays.

About the job

The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people, with a big vision – to drive change in the food system so that it delivers “food we can trust”. Our primary goal is to continue to protect public health and consumers’ wider interest in food. As we have now exited the EU the FSA faces a significant period of change and activity.

Alongside changes like these, the wider food industry is in a constant state of flux. New technologies, new ideas and new business models mean that the Agency is constantly looking at how best to respond to the ever-changing challenges it is presented with whilst delivering upon its remit.

The Operational Transformation Programme is working hard to overhaul and reform the regulatory system of official controls within the UK, aiming to bring the FSA’s regulatory capabilities in line with the developing trends and movements within the food industry. The post holder for this role will have a particular focus on aligning the Agency’s legislative work with its wider strategy.

This post is advertised as a 6 months Fixed Term or Loan appointment (with the possibility of an extension). Candidates that are already established Civil Servants will come to the FSA on a Loan basis and will need to request permission from their Home Department for the Loan prior to applying for this job.

Job description

Planning and monitoring the delivery of our legislative framework, the successful candidate will lead policy development for new legislation that will create a strong foundation for the programme to be built upon.

As an enthusiastic team player, the post holder will not only manage an SEO, but also provide broader legislative leadership across the programme and the wider FSA. Guiding the team through forward planning that will help them to fully realise the Operational Transformation Programme’s goals, they will seek to understand both the project’s objectives and their context within the FSA’s wider strategy, bringing them together and managing their relationship.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who can build relationships across the FSA and wider government, challenging and influencing decision making in order to build upon the legislative strategy of the Agency, and ultimately helping to build a stronger FSA that is fully prepared to serve the public interest for years to come.
