Buyer - Food

It takes a flair for relationship building, negotiation and an analytical approach. We look for people who can deliver a variety of strategies to help drive sales and profit and who have an affinity with what we sell.
We’re now looking for an experienced Food Buyer to join our Food category. Reporting to the Head of Buying - Food this role will be responsible for driving forward our Chilled Food offering across WHSmith Travel stores during a key period of strategic growth.
What you’ll do
As a Buyer you’ll be accountable for the Chilled Food categories growth and development. Get it right and you can really make an impact; and that could catapult your career onto a whole new level. You’ll need to analyse data and spot trends, whilst building strategic relationships internally & externally. With commercial thinking and ingenuity, you’ll create new ranges, appropriate pricing and sales-boosting strategies to deliver profitable ranges and drive year on year growth. As well as the above you will have the scope to really shape and mould our Food To Go offering from managing & helping to drive the range across the Travel estate.
Who we’re looking for
You will ideally be from a FMCG buying background, with Food buying experience. With your expertise you’ll drive the growth of this category; holding accountability for revenue, sales, margin and promotional income. You may also be from a Hospitality Buying background, or work for a Food supplier, used to driving revenue and profit with food ranges. You’ll need to be fully aware of food safety regulations and food safety compliance due to the nature of this role.
We’re looking for someone who is creative, but also commercial, with a head for figures, as this area’s data-driven. Knowledge of Profit & Loss and supplier management is essential. Our Food category has grown significantly over the past few years, therefore you’ll need to have an entrepreneurial mindset and be looking for a role that has the scope to develop and make a real impact. If you’re analytical, calm and articulate, you could be the ideal fit.
