The Business & Opportunity:
Fantastic opportunity to join an established and reputable housing association who provide quality and affordable homes for single people, older people and shared ownership across North Leeds. Following an internal promotion, they now require an Income Recovery Officer (Credit Controller) to take responsibility for income maximisation and arrears recovery.
Requirement:
Reporting to the Housing Manager, you will carry out an all encompassing role, which will include:
* Collection of rent arrears and other housing related debts through early intervention with an emphasis on personal contact with tenants;
* Responsibility for the management and delivery of a comprehensive rent recovery service;
* Identifying where tenants may be experiencing difficulty in meeting payments, offering appropriate support and advice;
* Working pro-actively and contributing ideas to improve income maximisation for both the housing association and the tenants;
* Communicating with tenants politely, sensitively and courteously in writing, over the phone and in person;
* Negotiating repayment agreements with tenants, taking corrective action where agreements are not maintained;
* Preparing and submitting cases to the County Court if applicable;
* Assisting and advising tenants with Housing Benefit Claims;
* Close liaison with the Tenancy Manager in reviewing rent arrears procedures, making recommendations for improvements;
* Liaising with external organisations, such as the Department for Work and Pensions.
Ideal Skills & Experience:
* Experience in a credit control / accounts receivable capacity;
* Competent with Excel and IT literate;
* Organised, with good admin skills;
* Culturally fit in with a friendly and supportive SME environment;
* Whilst experience from the housing sector will prove advantageous, it's certainly not a pre-requisite. A closely related industry would be useful, e.g. property, charity or service sector;
* Any experience of personal debt collection and people centric industries would be preferred, as oppose to purely corporate or B2B debt recovery;
* Possess the required interpersonal skills and emotive traits, being able to display empathy when required.
