The Role

Here at Amey we have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Commercial Manager to join the team in Kent and successfully manage the highways contract with Kent County Council.

You will head up a team of 8 in Commercial and be adept at dealing with a range of stakeholders, from operations to the client itself.

You will provide advice on risk management and implement commercial best practice including involvement in negotiating an extension to the current contract.

This would ideally suit a Quantity Surveyor trained individual with experience of highways or local government contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a team of 8 commercial specialists
  • Driving consistency of good valuation/commercial processes both pre and post Contract for contracts valued between £40- £ 90 m p.a.
  • Lead or provide commercial support to deliver good p/l results across a portfolio of Contracts or bids as applicable up to a value of £90 m p.a.
  • Develop in conjunction with Group procurement good supply chain strategies for winning bids and delivering contracts up to the value of £500m
  • Deliver the pre and post Contract opportunity and risk process including mitigation of risk
  • Negotiate with key customer interfaces
  • Delivering robust commercial solutions in all our bids
  • Develop good strategies for further improving cash flows in this part of the business
  • Adherence to company policies and processes
  • Ability to communicate with client and internally to promote the Amey brand and influence an end result
  • Assertive with an ability to retain a good working relationship with bidding teams and customer
  • Ability to manage upwards to Account or Business Director and functionally report to Commercial Director
  • Support the bid director in winning strategic bids by use of good commercial strategy and process
  • Support post contract activity by delivering solutions to discrete post contract strategic issues.
  • Support mobilisation of key contracts commercially with robust processes

What are we looking for

Qualifications

  • Commercial Degree or equivalent
  • MRICS or equivalent
  • Working towards FRICS

Skills

  • Excellent Health & Safety awareness
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Detailed understanding of the contract conditions used by the division
  • Knowledge of the UK governments' agenda for support services
  • Ability to develop and recruit staff
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products especially Excel and Word

Experience

  • Legal understanding relevant to contracts
  • Experience of delivering commercial solutions on support services contracts valued up to £40m p.a
  • Experience of managing commercial solutions on bids in excess of £100m
  • Track record of winning work and/or delivering good p/l
