Overview
 

The Sound Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the seamless audio delivery for the live sporting broadcasted events that are produced from the London Technology Hub. The facility comprises of Production and Sound Control Rooms, Commentary booths and Multi-Function Rooms which are operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Sound Supervisor takes a lead role on site as a primary contact for production partners and crew during the set up and delivery of live events broadcast out of the facility. Working as part of the onsite broadcast team, you are responsible for planning, set up, monitoring and delivery of the live produced productions.

A key focus of this role is to provide technical operational support and guidance to our production partners by understanding fully their audio production requirements and interpreting those needs to ensure successful delivery of the live events.

This role is shift based to cover the productions broadcast from The London Technology Hub, from time to time there may be requirement to work on location internationally.


Responsibilities
 

  • Accountable and responsible for ensuring the set up and delivery of Riedel comms and live audio output. Work in partnership with production, Technical Supervisors and MCR to implement the plans for execution and communicate these needs to wider teams. Daily management of the sound operators and freelancers within the facility, ensuring staffing needs are covered and deliverables are supported. Support with technical schematic explainers and associated documentation as required Work in partnership with the bookings team and facility management team to ensure efficient utilisation of all technical and human resources Ensure all set up and testing is done in a timely manner and configurations are to the agreed standard.  Working collaboratively with Europe broadcasting teams to ensure a seamless delivery of multi regional live events. Be a key point of contact for upcoming productions and on program days  Central point of contact for engineering in terms of audio requirements for all live broadcasts. Oversee engineering upgrades and testing of audio broadcast and corporate systems to ensure all equipment is functioning to the desired standard. Efficient management of equipment failure to ensure minimal disruption to transmissions Provide audio daily report for each production  Actively ensure compliance with all Health and Safety policies Actively monitor the sound team performance, ensuring the department is maintaining the highest standard of delivery and both staff and team goals are achieved. Create, develop and support team training and skill enhancement, to guarantee operators are agile and adaptable to all new technical development  Identify key development opportunities for improved workflows, system development and enhanced reporting.  Driving forward the system and software development needs for the facility alongside the Technical Supervisors and Engineering team, overseeing testing, implementation, and relevant training.  Lead projects and initiatives across the European network when required  Provide support to the line manager in operational and strategic decision making Promote sharing of best practice and process change opportunities to support an efficient and effective department. Other duties as required


Qualifications
 

  • Thorough understanding and extensive knowledge of the sports audio production process and the technical requirements needed to deliver the production, either gained from experience within OB broadcast or the commercial sector Proven ability to successfully form and manage relationships with production partners and clients in an international environment Experience in the design and operation of complex audio broadcast systems and a working knowledge of networking and IP infrastructure would be an advantage.  Rounded knowledge of audio routing, Redial talkback systems and BNCS Track record of excellence as an audio guarantee in a live broadcast environment. Experience of managing sound operators in a busy live environment. Full understanding of shift base work and freelancer support network. Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage, motivate and inspire direct reports. Working knowledge of recruitment processes, goal setting, development tracking and review process. Demonstrably assertive and able to handle conflict effectively, calmly and diplomatically Ability to work within a team environment and with a wide range of personalities and levels of authority Pro-active in troubleshooting, problem solving and avoidance of issues Excellent communication skills and ability to represent Production Operations at all levels Strong team player and solid interpersonal skills
