Our client is a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy based in Gloucestershire. Founded fifteen years ago, the company has grown considerably and now works on some prestigious projects, across the UK. This is an opportunity to join an established company with a fantastic working environment. The ideal candiate will have good commercial experience and be able to offer both transactional experience and be able think strategically. They will become part of a senior management team and its expected that there will be a requirement to build an accounts team to support this role going forward.

The role will be responsible for all aspects of finance and being a small company, the position will also have an oversight responsibility for HR, IT, office management and insurances. This is a part time role - 3-4 days a week with a hybrid of in-office and home working available. Lovely offices in a rural location.

Assignment Details
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including cashflows
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded in the accounting system and all main balances are reconciled monthly.
  • To assess current accounting and time recording systems and recommend changes/ improvements where appropriate.
  • Prepare and review quarterly VAT returns to ensure timely submission and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare the annual statutory accounts and liaise with the tax advisers to file returns.
  • Ensure invoices are prepared in line with the fee proposals and are issued on a timely basis.
  • Prepare annual budgets and semi-annual reforecasts, reporting on departmental performance.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with the team, working together on reporting requirements, such as monthly invoicing and annual budgets etc.
  • Ensure financial controls and accounting policies for the companies are documented and monitor compliance to such controls.
  • Draft and submit, following approval, required statutory returns to Companies House.
  • To identify and assist in implementing process and system improvements.
  • To manage the monthly payroll, together with the external payroll administrator.
  • To oversee all office management functions, such as HR, IT, insurances etc.
  • Provide commercial support and ad hoc analysis or reporting as required.

Skills Required

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA or ACCA); but QBE will be considered if they have enough relevant experience, more than 6 years.
  • Effective business acumen and commercial awareness.
  • Experience of working in a consultancy practice would be advantageous.
  • IT literate, with demonstrated advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to prioritise, adhere to schedules and work to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels both verbally and in writing.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to ad hoc requests.
