Personal Assistant / Companion (Casual)

Location: Cumnock

Hours: Casual - as and when required to cover holidays and sickness

Shifts to be covered (as required - shifts worked over 7 days):
14 hrs & 1 sleepover (24 hour shift)

Pay: GBP9.50 per hour / GBP95 per sleepover

This post is to assist a disabled man who lives in his own home, and has good support from his family. The gentleman has Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, a Learning Disability and Epilepsy.

It is important to recognise that the care and support you will assist with will be provided within the gentleman's home, therefore confidentiality and respect for his and his family's privacy and daily routine is of the upmost importance.

You will support the gentleman with all aspects of personal care and daily living, to enable him to live safely and happily in his own home. You will provide companionship and support in the local community and to attend appointments

PERSONAL CARE:
You will be required to assist with personal care including washing / showering, drying, shaving and dressing.

You will provide support with meals including cooking meals and snacks.
COMPANIONSHIP / SOCIAL SUPPORT:
You will work as a personal assistant and companion to the person, his interests include, going to Football and watching it on TV, going out for dinner, chatting, family gatherings, music, theatre, cinema (if it's something he would like to see), visiting caf??s, concerts, visiting parks in the summer, visiting the beach, going for a drive and holidays.

You must be willing to support the gentleman to find out about, access and take part in activities and events of his choosing within the community.
QUALITIES
You must be patient, understanding and caring. A good listener who will take time to get to know the gentleman and understand him.
You must be honest, trustworthy and reliable and able to liaise with the family and other staff members regarding his support.
Experience of Support Work and knowledge of Learning Disabilities, Muscular Dystrophy / Epilepsy desirable
You should have a positive, flexible and friendly personality and the ability to form positive relationships.

As you will be required to drive the gentlemans vehicle, you will need a clean driving licence.
TRAINING
Moving and Assisting / Epilepsy / First Aid / Food Hygiene / Medication training required - this can be provided by the employer.

***Please note that the Employer will require staff to adhere to safe working practice, this will include the use of PPE ( Masks, hand gel, gloves ) , as well as using Lateral Flow Testing Kits . PPE will be supplied by the employer.

The post is subject to the following:
As this is a Casual post, you will accrue 7 mins per hour worked holiday pay
Successful applicants will be required to provide 2 up to date reference contacts as well as undergo a new or update of the Protection of Vulnerable groups Disclosure, cost will be covered by the employer.
There is a 6 month probationary period attached to the post, with a 1 weeks' notice within this time if the post is not working out.
