Do you have considerable experience of housing law and debt advice and a good understanding of the main issues affecting homelessness and women with multiple and complex needs? Then join Shelter as an Accommodation Adviser and you could soon be playing a vital role at the heart of the Ministry of Justice's Together Women project.

This role is only open to women, in accordance with the sex-based exemptions of the Equality Act 2010 pursuant to Schedule 9, Part 1 support.

About Shelter

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the team

Established in 2006 as one of the MOJ's pilot demonstration projects, Together Women (TW) has been a national trailblazer in developing gender-specific, trauma-informed services for women involved in the Criminal Justice System and supporting other vulnerable women and girls. Working with clients with multiple and complex needs across the North of England, we pride ourselves on our person-centered approach. We also put our customers at the heart of the support they receive and are committed to better empower women by giving them the tools and confidence they need to lead healthier and happier lives.

About the role

Shelter have recently been commissioned to provide needs-led support to women under the supervision of the National Probation Services (NPS) across Humberside. Accordingly, we're looking for an Accommodation Adviser to work closely with the Together Women's Criminal Justice Team to provide housing support for women referred by the NPS. Your challenge? To deliver professional, impartial, pragmatic and outcome focussed housing services support to clients with varying needs. As well as assessing their accommodation needs and helping them to obtain and maintain secure, appropriate and safe housing, we'll rely on you to support them as they integrate back into their community, including ensuring their housing, finance, benefit and debt related support needs are met. Along the way, you'll work with housing providers, lead on the development of services and act as a single point of contact where Criminal Justice Key Workers can access support and advice relating to housing services.

We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.

About you

Proactive, results-driven and commercially aware, your proven experience of delivering services for women has given you in-depth knowledge of the issues faced by women with experience of the criminal justice system. What's more, you're used to managing a complex and demanding caseload and advocating on behalf of customers to other agencies and authorities.

Someone who listens closely and communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing, you're great at positively influencing others too. You also enjoy working collaboratively and building a network of good relationships. Experience of using a range of IT tools, including case management systems, Microsoft Office applications, internet and email etc., plus the ability to type, is also essential.

Benefits,

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave (pro rata), enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We're here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
