The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards and take action when they are not met.

We regulate one of the UK's most diverse professions and help to protect patients from our diverse society. Equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) is therefore integral to everything we do.

We are recruiting an ED&I Manager on a part time basis to work up to 3 days per week - Wednesday to Friday.

As ED&I Manager you will provide specialist knowledge and expertise on the legislation governing equality, diversity and inclusion and support the development of policy, process and practice across all our regulatory functions and in our role as employer.

You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to deliver our ED&I objectives and engage directly with internal and external stakeholders to build a culture of valuing inclusivity for doctors, patients and our own staff.

We are looking for an experienced ED&I professional who has a strong understanding of the public sector equality duty and the wider legal framework and significant experience of improving fairness and inclusivity within a large organisation.

If you have exceptional communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships in the context of having sensitive and challenging conversations about ED&I issues, then you could be just right for this role.

Working in this important and exciting role will also require someone who can analyse complex and contentious information, with accuracy, and who has the proven ability to produce work of a high quality that contributes to achieving measurable change on ED&I outcomes.

We strongly believe that diversity of background and experience contributes to a broader collective perspective that will consistently lead to us being a better regulator. We are working hard to increase the diversity of our staff, and also the diversity of those we work with wherever we can and we would actively encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply.

The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination.

In return, you'll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. Within our friendly environment, you will have access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression. You'll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package to find out more please click here .

Due to Covid 19, the successful applicant will commence working from home with a supportive induction package, with a plan to return to an office based role at a later date. As with our usual arrangements we will be able to offer up to two working from home days per week once we have returned to the office.

The GMC is happy to support a range of flexible working options. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy.
