Digital Technologist - Air Labs

Would you like the opportunity to contribute to the development of the skills and technology to help take BAE Systems into the cloud era? We currently have a vacancy for a Digital Technologist - Air Labs at our site in Warton.

As a Digital Technologist you will be working with leading edge cloud technologies from Microsoft, AWS (amazon web services), Google and Open Source to create the Air Sector compute platform of the future.

You will identify and research technologies and approaches, also performing experiments and demonstrations to prove the concept, technology and value of cloud native computing (within the Air Labs environment) readying them for adoption, production and scale.

You will work with other parts of Advanced Project and Technology and the IM&T Function ensuring a clear technology strategy and direction are created and communicated, with specific alignment into Capability Planning, Architecture, Engineering and Service Management.

This role will provide you with exciting opportunities to work with different technologies and functions across the business.

 

Your main responsibilities as a Digital Technologist will involve:

  • Identifying and developing digital and information capabilities, enabling critical technologies to develop, drive operational excellence, digitise existing products /services or support the launch of new information centric products or services.
  • Developing digital and information technologies, infrastructure and services helping evolve the future digital "Tech Stack"
  • Working with hybrid cloud computing infrastructure, HPC (High Performance Computing) , data platform, network and gateway, collaboration, AI / ML (Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning) , API platform (Application programming interface) , analytics, automation, digital twin, IoT (Internet of Things) , user experience and mobile platform, digital workplace.
  • Developing and maintaining elements of digital technology strategy and roadmap relevant to the above
  • Performing horizon scanning and identifying opportunities for value generation, from new technologies and approaches, collaborating with academia, research agencies, partners and the digital supply chain.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of software defined infrastructure, cloud native technologies including knowledge of the Azure, AWS and Google technology stacks.

 

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

  • The ability to provide detailed advice regarding the application of digital technologies and executing specialised tasks.
  • Demonstrable experience leading design and evaluation of digital capabilities ensuring the capability in digital approaches, technologies and business models
  • Experience of monitoring external environments, gathering intelligence on emerging technologies
  • The ability to assess and document impacts, threats and opportunities to the organisation
  • Experience of creating reports and technology roadmaps

Desirables:

  • Experience of agreeing objectives and requirements for future digital and informational technology required by programmes
  • Experience of leading/contributing to writing papers, technical proposals, business justifications, reports and standards documentation.
  • Experience of contributing to research goals and funding proposals.
  • Ability to review systems designs by others, ensuring appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration of multiple systems and technology
  • Understanding of system strategies that map out the future systems landscape and roadmap
  • Degree level in numerate or technical discipline / Degree qualified in relevant area with relevant experience

 

What we are looking for in you:

You should have good communication both written and verbal. You should feel comfortable working as part of a team, as well as being proactive to be able to prioritise your own workloads. You should have a good understanding of IT and digital technologies.

 

Location: Warton, we are currently operating on a hybrid working arrangement

 

Salary: £44,481+
