Our Maritime Services Business

We support the Royal Navy and our international clients in the design and manufacture of naval ships and submarines, including their state-of-the-art combat systems and equipment.

As part of the Maritime Services team, you'll play an important part in our supply and production. We design and build a full range of naval ships - from offshore patrol vessels through to giant aircraft carriers. And we provide the Royal Navy with its most advanced and powerful attack submarine fleet. Your expertise will contribute to our customers' capability to fulfil their extensive naval operations globally. We are the only provider of complex warships and their combat managements to the UK Royal Navy's surface fleet.

Engineering Data Hub Engineer

Would you like to make an impact by assisting in the creation and maintenance of engineering data for components and materials into our SAP System? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Data Hub Engineer at one of our sites in either Great Baddow, Cowes or Portsmouth.

As a Engineering Data Hub Engineer, you will be working within the Engineering Data Hub who provide access to up to date engineering records of electronic and mechanical components as well as other materials. These records are accessible and utilised by projects across BAE Systems Maritime Services. You will undertake the creation and maintenance of the engineering master data into the SAP ERP system for the engineering function, offering SAP support across all business functions within Maritime Services.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to upskill and progress within the company.

 

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Data Hub Engineer will involve:

  • Creation of new engineering material masters into the SAP ERP system.
  • Amending existing material masters as requested
  • Assessment and removal of duplicate material masters
  • Creation and maintenance of material hazard information on the advice of company chemists
  • Cleansing of master data such as part description and manufacturer part numbers
  • Extending material masters to plants allowing purchasing and manufacturing to proceed
  • Gathering and processing obsolescence data for projects under support contracts
  • Delivering accurate material masters in a timely function for use by engineers
  • Assist engineering in mitigating and avoiding obsolescence
  • Provide SAP assistance to other areas of Maritime Services

 

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

  • Good general working knowledge of Microsoft Office, importing, sorting, filtering, comparing and manipulating data
  • Mechanical and/or electrical engineering experience
  • A good knowledge of materials management
  • Data cleansing skills
  • Highly observant with excellent attention to detail

Desirable

  • Experience with SAP or ERP systems
  • Engineering based NVQ and/or HNC or higher
  • EngTech or equivalent, or approaching that status
  • An understanding of Manufacturing practices

 

What we are looking for in you:

You should have good communication skills ensuring accuracy and working to a high standard in a timely manner. You should have excellent attention to detail and should be able to confidently manage your own workload, as this may be unsupervised when required.

 

Location: Great Baddow, Cowes or Portsmouth. Hybrid working arrangement currently, with travel to site when required.

 

Salary: £28,000 - £33,000 (depending on experience)
