DevOps Engineer

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Information Assurance Delivery Group's Product Development team. We currently have a vacancy for a DevOps Engineer at our site in Christchurch, Dorset.

The Defence Information division provides business and mission critical highly secure, assured information systems and services, with a mission to protect and maximise the value of information for their customers in the UK and Internationally. This role's primary function is to support the existing DevOps toolchain; embed & transfer knowledge within the team, and support the adoption of DevOps toolchains with the wider business

This is an excellent opportunity for the candidate to work on the latest technologies, support adoption of modern toolsets and be part of building capabilities for future defence platforms.

 

Your main responsibilities as a DevOps Engineer will involve:

  • Supporting the use and adoption of Automation technologies in the full lifecycle of infrastructure/software design, build, test, deployment and management
  • Turning designs into secure IT Systems and Solutions
  • Collaborating effectively with other members of the team; sharing knowledge and peer reviewing others' work
  • Ensuring solutions are both secure and which can be accredited by information assurance teams
  • Following industry standard best practices as well as internal policies and procedures
  • Identifying areas of technical debt for continual improvement
  • Creating clear and concise technical documentation
  • Using the Atlassian toolset (JIRA & Confluence) to record and document their work

 

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

  • Working as part of an Agile infrastructure/development team
  • Understanding and familiarity with CI/CD to maximise benefits
  • Passion for continual learning and exploiting the latest technologies
  • Experience and knowledge of some of the following toolsets:
    • Server Virtualisation - VMware vSphere
    • IAC - Ansible or Terraform
    • CI/CD Pipelines - Jenkins/Azure DevOps
    • Use of planning tools - JIRA/Confluence (Atlassian toolset)
    • Repository Management - Nexus/Artifactory
    • Version Control - Git/Gitea/Gitlab/Bitbucket
    • Deploying and Managing Containers - Docker/Kubernetes/Openshift
    • Configuration Management & Orchestration - Ansible
    • Python Scripting
    • Public Cloud Experience - AWS or Azure

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with Defence projects and secure accreditable solutions
  • Understanding of cloud-native architectures
  • Automated test tools

You should have good communication skills; being a good listener and ability to take on other perspectives. You will be a strong team player; being able to constructively challenge team members.

 

Location: Christchurch, Dorset

Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on experience
