Our Submarines Business

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.

The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.

Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.

Senior Planning, Monitoring and Control Professional

Would you like to work on a varied long-term complex and challenging portfolio within a world class submarine capability? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Planning, Monitoring and Control Professional at our site in Barrow in Furness.

As a Senior Planning, Monitoring and Control Professional, you will be supporting a growth area within the business and is winning new business as well as expanding the service currently contracted. You will be liaising with a series of Project Managers within Submarine Support on contracts such as Astute Base Spares

and Platform Management System, creating, maintaining and progressing P6 schedules.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to train, develop and transition into new roles within the same Support department, working on different contracts and programmes and becoming a well-rounded project professional.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Planning, Monitoring and Control Professional will involve:

  • An element of Project Controls such as cost forecasts, EVM analysis, Identification and implementation of improvement actions adhering to relevant process and policies
  • Creating, maintaining and progressing P6 schedules in conjunction with the Project Management within Submarine Support
  • Assisting Project Managers with compilation of quarterly Estimate at Completion (EAC) reporting packs and monthly Contract Status Review (CSR) reporting packs.
  • Assisting and supporting Project Managers in implementing improvement actions identified from toolsets and management information.
  • Ensuring all Project Controls System Description (PCSD) mandates are followed

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience with planning, P6 scheduling
  • Microsoft Excel knowledge
  • Experience in planning and P6 scheduling

Desirable:

  • Project controls experience would be beneficial
  • Project Management qualification or equivalent would be advantageous

What we are looking for in you:

You should have good communication skills and be proactive and willing to learn. You should have good presentation skills as you will be presenting planning and project data to senior leadership. You should be analytically minded and feel confident to interpret earned can interpret earned value management data and suggest improvement ideas.
