Our Maritime Services Business

We support the Royal Navy and our international clients in the design and manufacture of naval ships and submarines, including their state-of-the-art combat systems and equipment.

As part of the Maritime Services team, you'll play an important part in our supply and production. We design and build a full range of naval ships - from offshore patrol vessels through to giant aircraft carriers. And we provide the Royal Navy with its most advanced and powerful attack submarine fleet. Your expertise will contribute to our customers' capability to fulfil their extensive naval operations globally. We are the only provider of complex warships and their combat managements to the UK Royal Navy's surface fleet.

Senior Software Engineer

Would you like to design and develop software for next-generation Military Radar systems? We currently have vacancies for Senior Software Engineers at our site in Cowes or Great Baddow, Essex.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be developing new software, modifying existing software and identifying emergent technical issues, document, and then investigate to find appropriate solutions.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of bespoke projects and Radar systems as you advance your career.

 

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Software Engineer will involve:

  • Supporting the maintenance and further development and enhancement of one or more real-time software subsystems within the Radar group.
  • Designing, reviewing, developing, testing, documenting, configuring and delivering real-time software products to the agreed standards and procedures using the specified tools.
  • Testing software products sufficiently to ensure software product quality is maintained and minimal or no re-work is required.
  • Investigating and resolving obsolescence issues and problems raised during any stage of the development lifecycle, including software and system integration, qualification, and in-service trials.
  • Communicating effectively, identifying early potential risks, seeking clarification and providing feedback to the team leader.
  • Ensuring that a good working knowledge of Maritime Services software related processes and product deliverables is maintained.

 

Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Software Engineer:

Essential:

  • Extensive knowledge of programming languages in a real-time system; C and/or Ada highly desirable.
  • Excellent software coding, integration and testing skills, ideally with a real time, multi-processor focus.
  • Experience with all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience of UML or a similar high-level design methodology.
  • BEng/BSc in Computer Science/other relevant STEM subject or relevant working experience.

Desirable:

  • Working knowledge/experience with COTS hardware, device drivers and interface standards, including Ethernet, VME is desirable.
  • Experience of configuration control systems.
  • Some obsolescence experience would be advantageous.

You should be able to take responsibility for quality and timely delivery of your own work. You should be concise, logical and have accurate communication skills, being able to communicate complex technical information to others.

Salary: £40-45000
