Environmental sustainability (ES) is a strategic area for all our clients as part of an ambition to improve sustainability performance including net zero carbon, environmental best practice, biodiversity, sustainability certification schemes and circular economy. This has resulted in an increased demand for sustainability requirements from our clients and ambitious commitments from within the business.

To be able to achieve and exceed our client's sustainability ambition, Laing O'Rourke is investing in this role as a strategic step to strengthen our sustainability offering in work winning. This role will provide input across all front-end work winning opportunities, including supporting technical solutions, procurement strategy, commercial, logistic, programme and construction solutions.

We have significant growth in the work winning pipeline across different sectors, including in-house specialist businesses and we are positioning sustainability as a strategic business offering to deliver high quality responses.

Key Deliverables and Accountabilities

• To provide ES support to work winning team at different stages including EOI, PQQ, ITT and any other tender opportunities.
• To support work winning ES Lead in collection of evidence, best practices and case studies from across the business.
• Support and delivery of environmental sustainability work winning submissions
• Collecting and promoting environmental best practice case studies across the business, through site visits, collective insights and good relationships with operational ES teams.
• Providing support through transition from work winning to delivery ensuring bid details are effectively communicated to the operational teams
• Ensure environmental innovation and best practise is captured and shared
• Undertake regular best practice visits to projects to keep bid content current and relevant
• Work with other ES team members to raise the function profile within the business and externally

Experience

• Competent environmental sustainability professional
• Experience of producing high-end materials for external parties (e.g., tender and communication)
• Broad understanding of topical construction environmental sustainability issues
• Detailed understanding of the aspects of construction Environmental Management (including EMS, S61, waste, carbon, ecology etc) as well as BREEAM/LEED/WELL and Client Sustainability agendas
• Technical writing and computer literacy to produce high end documents
• Clear and robust data management, tracking and presentation capabilities
• Interest and expertise in any of the following would be an advantage: net zero carbon, circular economy, biodiversity net gain.
