Sky News is looking for the right candidate to take up the role of Asia Correspondent in the coming months.

 

The job is based in Beijing, where Sky News has its China bureau.

 

It's a vital role in the Sky News international network, delivering the very best content to audiences on our digital services and on TV.

 

What you'll do:Be responsible for coverage from across China and the wider region on all Sky News platforms - TV, digital and audio.

 

Reporting to the Head of International News, you'll be expected to deliver high quality coverage in varying forms.

 

  • Reporting on all kinds of news stories from across China and Asia, in written, audio and visual form.
  • Regular travel, often at short notice when reacting to breaking news.
  • Working with bureau colleagues, both in China and other Sky News offices in Asia, to choose stories and decide editorial approaches.
  • Investing in long form and other innovative broadcast and digital formats.
  • Playing a key influencing role with TV and digital production staff to ensure we are making the most of our content across all platforms.
  • Developing and displaying relevant expertise on Chinese politics, society and culture, as well as the wider region.
  • Briefing senior colleagues on plans and developments.
  • Managing local staff on a day to day basis as well as a network of freelancers and producers across the region.
  • Responsibility for administrative issues within the bureau, relating to both editorial and corporate affairs

What you'll bring:

  • A successful track record as a TV and digital correspondent.
  • Creative approach to storytelling and package production.
  • Willingness to adapt skills to new journalistic formats.
  • Ability to broadcast live in all kinds of circumstances.
  • Evidence of editorial judgement, factual accuracy, and journalistic enterprise.
  • Strong understanding of politics, society and culture across China and the wider region.
  • Political nous and appreciation of geopolitical issues
  • Excellent appreciation of the ever-changing media world and requirements of cross-platform news delivery for a range of audiences.
  • The ability to find news from a diverse range of sources.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of working alongside teams in a complex, fast-moving news environment.
  • First class communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of newsgathering in high risk environments.
  • Strong understanding of media law and compliance issues.
