At Lloyds Banking Group, we're inspired by a clear purpose; to Help Britain Recover. Across the Group, our colleagues are passionate about making a difference to customers, businesses and communities. We're on the mission to build the bank of the future, and we need your help to do it.

We're redefining what a bank is from the inside out. Our technology, culture, and our mindsets are changing to craft a true engineering-led organisation.

We're creating new opportunities and products to improve customer experiences for years to come. With our business evolving to more modern and flexible ways of working, we want driven, dynamic and innovative individuals who join us on this journey.

Want to know more?

Lloyds Banking Group are redefining the way we approach Engineering. We've created "LBG Labs" and we're building multi-functional teams, supporting the technology at the forefront of our business to really make a difference to our customers.

Labs are made up of teams who work together on key projects to deliver value at pace by designing services that people find useful, easy and engaging to use. A Lab has a strong focus on problem solving in an agile environment where engineers are free to experiment and create innovative solutions. Software Engineers play a key role in the team by designing and building quality software solutions and then delivering them into production.

This role sits within the Financial Planning & Retirement Value Stream in the Insurance & Wealth Transformation division. This team is a part of the Platform Lab which has ambitious plans to significantly grow our engineering capability.

About the role:

We're looking for someone who loves technology and its application to real-world problems. A great collaborator who can establish relationships and work efficiently with others to deliver high quality technical solutions.

Our software engineers are critical in delivering quality solutions for our customers. You would be part of a Bristol based team delivering exciting customer driven solutions whilst reducing risk by implementing excellent software engineering practices. At Lloyds Banking Group our aim is to create a forward-thinking engineering culture that supports the business in delivering high quality, efficient and positive outcomes for customers.

The role of the Software Engineer is to build our software and improve our software development practices, leading by example as we deliver improvements to our systems and development approaches. You'll balance hands on engineering expertise with working as member of the wider engineering community.

Our team works using the Scrum methodology and activities include shaping stories as well as software engineering. We support a range of legacy and modern systems, and the role delivers project driven change to these systems. Working within a large bank means we must focus on managing risk to our customers and a key part of the role is driving best practice in engineering during every engagement.

Our mission to continually improve the way we deliver software means you'll be championing modern engineering approaches and working with others on enhancing our DevOps pipelines as well as delivering change.

What we would like to see in you:

  • The ability to contribute your broad and deep technical experience.
  • Evidence of taking ownership when solving technical challenges and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
  • You will be a dynamic and adaptable individual, able to use and learn new skills in varying circumstances.
  • Influencing positively - demonstrating the right values and behaviours and encouraging this in team members.

We're specifically looking for these skills:

  • 5 years + commercial experience with .NET Framework and/or .NET Core.
  • Web services experience using ASP.NET.
  • Good working knowledge of SQL, preferably using SQL Server.
  • Familiar working across the entire application stack.
  • An improvement driven approach to software engineering with a passion for enhancing the way we deliver software at the same time as software delivery itself.
  • Hands on experience using unit testing frameworks e.g. MSTest, NUnit, xUnit.
  • Experience working within a DevOps driven agile working environment, preferably Azure DevOps and Scrum.

In addition the following skills are desirable, but not essential:

  • Cloud experience e.g. GCP, Azure
  • Experience migrating applications to new platforms;

We like people who come from a variety of backgrounds and welcome having a diverse team.

If this is you, come and join our inclusive, values-led culture focused on making a difference.

Together we'll make it possible...

So what can we offer you in return?

Whatever your aspiration, you can also expect excellent benefits, personal development and a career that's enriching and full of opportunity.

You'll also receive a package that includes

  • Discretionary bonus
  • Cash sum of 4% which you can exchange for a variety of benefits or simply take the cash
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Pension, where we'll give up to a max of 15%
  • Share plans
  • 30 days holiday plus bank holidays

Are you interested in joining us? Apply today, we'd love to hear from you...

Company

We’re creating an organisation that attracts, retains and develops the best talent in the industry, and one that openly embraces diversity too. But more than that – we want to be a great place to work. We invest in our people, offering the best training and coaching, and by encouraging them to contribute to our leading corporate and social responsibility practices. We offer flexible working hours and days, under our Work Options scheme. This means that you can have a challenging and rewarding career, and still have an ideal work/life balance.

Flexible working is at the heart of our strategy. We’re re-imagining where, when, and how our people work, with new approaches designed to meet the ever-changing needs of customers and colleagues. These include increasing our use of remote-working tools and technology, as well as placing less reliance on a 9-to-5 mindset. For many of our office-based colleagues, we work in hybrid ways which involves spending at least two days per week or 40% of their time at one of our office sites.
