Chief Operations Office

Job Description

Primary role purpose:

The Cloud Business Manager (CBM) role has two primary focuses: ensures the effective governance is in place to enable Inmarsat to adopt and accelerate Cloud services and capability use across the business in an effective and cost efficient manner, and to manage and monitor the annual IT Opex budget.

The Cloud Business Manager is responsible for managing the Cloud Business Office (CBO) including establishing and maintaining strong stakeholder (vendor, partner, and customer) engagement. The role supports the seamless onboarding and management of new teams and groups to the cloud and ensures training and knowledge transfer required to migrate and deliver cloud services is successfully completed.

The role also has the added accountability of compiling, monitoring and management of Group IT’s opex budget which averages approximately $40 Million USD annually.  This includes working with key stakeholders to ensure completeness and accuracy, identifying cost saving opportunities and ensuring spend is aligned with budget forecasts. 

Key Responsibilities:

 The CBM will focus on the stakeholder, finance and process & governance aspect of the CBO.  This person will maintain relationships and drive results from internal teams, third party vendor relations and contracted cloud Managed Service Providers. The CBO will also work closely with Procurement, Finance and Inmarsat’s Business Units to ensure the best possible experience and derived value from cloud services and opex based software utilization.

  • Manage all aspects of the Cloud and Operations business office including onboarding, spend management, savings plans, budget, & cost allocation.
  • Maintain documentation and governance over cloud architecture and patterns. Ensure alignment to security policy and operational best practices.
  • Manage core GroupIT Cost Center financials with approx. 40M in technology spend
  • Prepare detailed operational expense budgets and forecasts (OpEx Budgets) in conjunction with GroupIT leadership and other business cost owners.
  • Prepare and manage a Long-Range Business Plan (LRBP) Budget in conjunction with GroupIT leadership and cost owners.
  • Prepare and manage operation cost and spend forecast versus actuals.
  • Responsible for managing and controlling Cloud Spend and the associated allocation and controls.
  • Define and delivery of monthly financial reporting and Key Performance indicators.
  • Lead the team responsible for Software Asset Management, Software License Management, and Software and hardware support contracts and associated procurement and renewals.
  • Manage and maintain strong working relationships with vendors including Cloud, Software as a Service, Software and Hardware and other IT associated vendors and service providers.
  • Maximize partner relationships, discount programmes and partner/co investment opportunities.
  • Support innovation opportunities and drive simplification.
  • Define cloud training strategy including sequencing strategy, training KPI’s, success criteria and measurements.
  • Define and operationalize cloud role-based learning paths and team-based learning approach.
  • Develop and Execute Communication & Excitement Plans.
  • Identify training cloud curriculum needs for learning paths along with cloud training suppliers.
  • Ensure Training and Enablement Aligned with New Roles and Team Structures across the wider Inmarsat teams and business units.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • University degree level or equivalent in Business, Computing Science, Telecommunications or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience working with emerging Solutions and Providers including a solid understanding of cloud computing technology and specific experience in technology procurement and spend management
  • Strong accounting and financial reporting and management experience
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills in English including strong presentation skills and the ability to articulate complex concepts to cross functional audiences.
  • Strong people skills; impactful, confident, credible and comfortable at engaging collaboratively in an intellectual and multinational environment at all levels
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills, coupled with a logical, disciplined and structured approach to documentation and procedures
  • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision, while participating fully as a member of the Solution Design team
  • Flexible and dynamic personality
  • Experience/knowledge of a range of technical platforms and solutions
  • Experience of working in a highly augmented environment with multiple partners and suppliers
  • Strong understanding of business and operational processes
  • Experience with process mapping and documentation
  • Strong stakeholder management

  • Strong results-orientated work ethic and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with passion for excellence and innovation.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and SharePoint

 Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • AWS Foundational, Associate or Professional Certification
  • Agile methods experience
  • Ability to travel and work across cultures and time zones
  • Experience working in a complex global or multisite environment
