Job Description

Creative Artworker
London Head Office, Houndsditch
Salary upto 32k

The Creative Artwork, Promotions and Marketing teams are central to creating a consistent look and feel for our brand globally. They constantly evolve our store environments and new store concepts. So, creative flair, an ability to stay on top of world trends and a good eye for detail are critical.

We are now looking for a creative, ambitious and talented Creative Artworker to join our Marketing and Promotions team in our Travel Head Office. In this varied and dynamic role, you’ll play a pivotal role in the design and creation of vibrant art worked solutions for new UK and international business opportunities.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager this is an exciting opportunity to help win new stores across the world through the creation of competitive tender documents and presentations, deliver all required marketing activity and support for existing landlords and key stakeholders and act as Creative support for the wider Marketing Team.

What you’ll do:

You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders in our business development and group marketing teams to create bespoke artwork for new business opportunities, including the creation of pitch and competitive tender documents, presentation material and design visuals for all store formats (UK and international airports, railways, and hospitals.) Every store and every pitch we tender for is different, so you need to be comfortable art working bespoke, evolving and differing art worked solutions for differentiating size stores, different formats in both UK and International territories from initial brief through to final production.

You’ll work closely with the Head of Travel Marketing, Group Design Director and Business Development team to provide creative solutions for key local marketing and ad hoc sales driving initiatives, both in the UK and Internationally. These will consist of large pagination presentations (200 page) from concept to completion. You’ll have to accurately and with pace translate briefs into print ready, accurate artwork, ensuring all created artwork assets follow correct format/size and brand guidelines. As well as presentation documents you’ll also get involved in the creation of other marketing assets, from posters, leaflets, pull-up banners to web and social formats.

Who we’re looking for:

You’ll need to be a strong creative Artworker, with an in-depth understanding of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (Illustrator CC, InDesign CC, Photoshop CC). You could come from an agency or in house Creative Artworker position, but what is important is you’ll have 2-3 years’ experience and be comfortable and be able to hold your own. The deadlines can be extremely challenging, so you’ll need to be able to manage your own workload, under pressure whilst delivering accurate high-quality work.

Alongside a real passion for creative art working you’ll be able to develop creative concepts and take constructive advice during the design development and hold excellent typographical and layout skills. What makes the team tick is engaging communicators who are all driven and flexible in their approach to ensure the deadlines are met and high-quality artwork is delivered. It’s a busy, autonomous team and position, but one that will test and develop you. You will also need to have previous experience or the capability to use professional camera equipment to take high quality photographs of our stores, you will need an understanding of camera hardware, composition and how to capture light and colour effectively.

This position will offer flexibility around remote working short term. Longer term there will be a requirement to be in the London office for at least part of the week, with flexibility required on the number of days and the hours worked, especially when project deadlines approach.

Company

WHSmith started in 1792 with a small news vendor in Little Grosvenor Street, London, followed by the opening of our first bookstall in Euston Station in 1848. We quickly established ourselves as the favoured newsagent, stationers and bookseller opening stores across the UK. From this point on, there has been no looking back.
