Chief Corporate Affairs Office

Inmarsat’s Chief Corporate Affairs Office (CCAO) oversees several key areas – Company Secretarial, Enterprise Risk Management, Governance and Compliance, alongside marketing communications and managing the activities in India, China, Russian/the Stans and Turkey. 

Job Description

***This is a 9-12 month Maternity Leave Cover***

Primary role purpose:

This is a leadership role within CCAO team working closely with the CCAO/Company Secretary and her SLT to deliver three critical work streams for the Group:

  1. Risk Management: Leading the promotion of a systematic Risk Management approach across the Group. Risk management is helping Inmarsat to take risk in implementing our strategy through analysing and reducing risks to the strategic goals and promote decision-making.
  2. Crisis Management: Leading and developing policies and framework for crisis management along with embedding systemic Crisis Management thinking to prepare and respond to a crisis.
  3. Business Continuity: Leading and promoting policies and framework for Business Continuity Management along with embedding systemic business continuity planning and testing for critical areas of the business.

The role is accountable for:

Enterprise Risk Management:

  •  Accountable for leading and promoting a risk management approach and culture across the Group, where risk management, including risk assessment and mitigation, becomes fully integrated into strategy, business decisions and operational planning.
  • Develop and maintain risk governance and reporting systems through to the plc Board (incl. the Audit Committee), executive and senior management and the Central Risk Committee (CRC) on the status of risks, compared to the risk appetite, highlighting changes, mitigation progress, emerging risks, incident and crisis management capability.
  • Embed risk aware culture within the business to ensure strategic objectives are met within risk appetite.
  • Develop and maintain a risk management framework that is suitable to Inmarsat’s changing needs.
  • Assess and measure the status of risk management maturity in Inmarsat. As necessary, engage external resources for such assessments. Develop KPIs or Key Risk Indicators – KRIs that contribute to fact based decision making on prioritisation of mitigation activities.
  • Deliver risk workshops, crisis workshops and regional integration workshops across the business.
  • Develop, deliver and promote systematic organisation-wide risk management processes that identifies, assesses and reduces risks to strategic objectives, business objectives, operations and projects. Ensure that the cross company risk assessments do enable Inmarsat to take calculated risks and that the risk report description is a good representation with the actual risk profile.
  • Develop and deliver risk management policy in line with the industry standards. Communicate the policy across the Group and ensure the policy is reviewed and approved annually by the Audit Committee.
  • Develop, maintain and review a risk and mitigation database for the whole Group and of all large risks identified across the company by using the risk assessment and mitigation process in each BU and Corporate Department. The database should include a risk matrix, risk registers per BU/Corporate Department and overall, BU/Corporate Department risks matched to principal key risks and risk mitigation plan actions.

Crisis Management:

  • Accountable for developing and delivering Crisis Management framework for the group to ensure that the company has a robust resilience plan with clear accountabilities in place.
  • Embed Core Crisis Response thinking by ensuring disaster recovery plans for critical departments are in centralised place and tested regularly.
  • Host annual crisis scenario planning workshops and document lessons learnt.
  • Create Crisis Process Library in line with Crisis Playbook.
  • Maintain close co-operation with the Security & Cyber function to ensure the risk assessment, crisis management & mitigation process is the same for strategic objectives as for information assets that the process conforms to ISO 27001, and in particular cooperate on the risk management of the security risk into principal risk at group level.
  • Make crisis management a true competence at Inmarsat through providing training, support, processes and tools.
  • Develop and maintain crisis governance and reporting systems through to the Executive sponsors and Core Crisis Response Team.
  • Contribute in delivery of ISO standards certification within the business.
  • Develop and deliver crisis management policy and framework.
  • Communicate the policies across the Group and ensure policies are reviewed and approved annually by the Audit Committee.
  • Improve awareness of Crisis Management process and framework within the business by making use of internal platforms.

Business Continuity Management:

  • Develop and deliver fit for purpose business continuity plans with identification of business impact analysis across the critical teams and systems.
  • Develop business continuity management system in line with the ISO standards.
  • Make business continuity a true competence at Inmarsat through providing training, support, processes and tools.
  • Ensure that the critical departments within the Inmarsat have robust business continuity plans in place.
  • Ensure that the business continuity plans for critical departments are tested annually.
  •  Improve awareness of Business Continuity Management process and framework within the business by making use of internal platforms.
  • Create and maintain business continuity network/repository within the business in line with Core Crisis Response Team.
  • Work closely with Central Risk Committee and Core Crisis Response Team to ensure there is alignment in business continuity plans.
  • Develop and maintain Business Continuity Management policy and framework.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Graduate with professional qualification or equivalent, risk management qualification is a plus.
  • Demonstrated and commensurate experience in risk management.
  • Strong people skills, confident and comfortable at engaging collaboratively in an intellectual and multinational environment at all levels.
  • Influential with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Ability to travel and work across cultures and time zones.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with passion for excellence and innovation.
  • Proactive individual with the ability to effectively manage various projects while adhering to deadlines.
  • Capable of long-term thinking as well as immediate and critical resolution of issues. 
  • Fluent in English. Other languages a plus.
  • Flexible and adaptive. Always demonstrating a get-it-done mentality, there is no job too big or too small.
