Job Description: CEO – The Gifted

Job Title: CEO

Number of hours: 14 hours a week

Resource Type: PAYE

Rate: £27,664 

Reporting Structure: The Chief Executive reports to the Chair of the Board of Trustees.

The Gifted is a charity that supports children and young people who are affected by disadvantage. This includes those in care, leaving care or custody, at risk of exclusion, young parents, survivors and those experiencing domestic abuse or sexual exploitation, and those at risk of offending, exclusion or sexual exploitation, as well as those young people who are showing signs that they are not reaching their full potential due to self esteem and self confidence issues.

We  deliver a range of programmes in schools, colleges, alternative education settings and community settings and are looking for a CEO to:

  • Ensure that all aspects of the organisation are running smoothly and that projects  are being delivered on time and on budget. 
  • Have oversight and responsibility for finance and all aspects of the organisation. 
  • Management of the charity and its staff and the execution of targets, plans and policies, ensuring that resources are used to best effect in meeting the needs of beneficiaries. 

The duties of the CEO include the following:

Oversight Role

  • Provide Guidance and Oversight and make key decisions (within scope) in relation to Operations, Business and Strategy (B&S) and Partnership and Development (P&D)
  • Provide a conduit to the Board of Trustees, escalate as necessary
  • Ensure clear goals and KPIs for Operations, Business and Strategy and Partnership and Development on a yearly basis and monitor the KPIs on a monthly basis
  • Review programmes to ensure they are fit for purpose and offer the best approach to delivery (cost efficient and impact)
  • Ensure the charity is streamlined and able to deliver on its commitments. Identify where there maybe gaps and opportunities
  • Inspire and support the team to meet targets and to understand how their contribution is vital to achieving the Gifted’s aims

Policy/ Safeguarding

  • Accountable for ensuring that all The Gifted’s practices, procedures and tasks comply with relevant legislation, in particular the Child Protection, Health and Safety, Confidentiality, Equal Opportunities and Data Protection. 
  • To take legal accountability for all work produced by The Gifted ensuring it is factually correct and free from copyright infringements and libel.
  • Accountable for The Gifted’s Data Protection Policy
  • Accountable for ensuring insurances are updated (reading documentation and ensuring adequate cover and any amendments that need to be made) 

Financial Management

  • Accountability for the financial management of The Gifted, including:
  • Day to day accounting: Book-keeping, signing off and authorising invoices, providing accounts to accountants  and downloading bank statements
  • Year End accounting: liaising with accountants and auditors, ensuring audited accounts are submitted by accountant annually to the Charity Commission and Companies House, working with the Operations manager to produce an annual report and financial forecasting
  • Reporting: Assisting P&D with any financial aspects of bids / creating readily available financial data that can be utilised
  • Project Accounting: Ensure the budget for each project is created, tracked and monitored

Fundraising/ New Project Development

  • Set and agree targets with P&D and present to board 
  • Review P&D submissions over £50,000 and over 12 months in duration

Delivery of Projects    

  • Work with Operations Manager and P&D to ensure any delivery issues are documented and clear action plan in place to mitigate impact

Monitoring and Evaluation    

  • Accountability to ensure appropriate planning, monitoring and evaluation processes are in place and statistical information is recorded and provided to funders in accordance with their requirements.

Relationship/ Third Party Management    

  • Accountability for ensuring all third-party dealings are in line with company procedures

Strategy

  • Work with B&S to ensure that a yearly plan is in place. This should be presented to Board on a yearly basis and then updates provided  quarterly at Board Meetings

Reporting to Funders/ Regulators , Board (adhoc dependant on funders)    

  • Accountable for the creation the Annual and Impact report (as part of the End of Year accounts)

 People Management    

  • To ensure the effective management of all The Gifted’s staff through the use of effective lines of communication, in particular, regular team meetings, individual supervision, appraisals, staff development and training opportunities (where applicable).
  • Ensure roles and responsibilities and decision-making rights are understood by team members.
  • Undertake and refresh all mandatory and relevant training related to the post

 HR    

  • Accountable for the management of HR issues that may arise.
  • Approval of any new roles being advertised. Where the role is not that of a session worker, seek approval from the Board of Trustees

Other

  • To act as Secretary to the board of trustees, ensuring The Gifted adheres to all legal requirements resulting from its charitable and company status. 
  • Ensure there is an appropriate management structure and management systems in order to meet operational plans and service delivery metrics
