London based: 2 days per week in the office and rest from home. We are comfortable wherever you live in relation to London as long as you can commute into the office as required

Salary & Benefits: £41,592 to £54,590 (depending on experience) base salary, plus annual personal bonus,15% employer pension contribution (when you put in 6%), 4% flexible cash pot, private medical insurance, 28 days holiday plus bank holidays.

Where does the role sit and what will I develop?

Do you want to help millions of people and protect them from falling victim to fraudulent activity? Are you someone who wants to have some fun while making a difference? Well, come join us as a Java Engineer, as we stand side by side in the fight against fraud.

The role sits within our Payments & Economic Crime Prevention value stream, part of our Group Transformation division.

Your role will focus on supporting the development and maintenance of anti-fraud software, mainly using Java.

What would I focus on as a Mid to Senior level Java Engineer?

As a Java Engineer you'll support the development and delivery of our Java based Springboot Microservices.

You will work within a Software Engineering team embedded into the PECP Lab of multidisciplinary staff, to create the best outcomes for our 30 million customers.

You will be empowered to support the design and development of solutions that face into the constantly evolving needs of our customers and collaborate with others to make them a reality.

Specific responsibilities might include things such as;

  • To produce good quality, well tested and robust code using Java

  • Support the maintenance & improvement of existing software

  • Support the development of API's and Microservices

  • Work alongside other skilled engineers

  • Support the identification of opportunities to automate and simplify

  • To play a part in our Agile engineering practices & ceremonies

  • We're also making the move to cloud and you'll get the opportunity to be involved in building this

What do we need to see from applicants?

As this is an entry level role we are open to people who come from a variety of backgrounds however you do need to have pre-existing software engineering experience, either commercial or via a degree/course and some commercial experience.

To be considered for the role, you must be able to show demonstrable experience and provide examples of the following in your CV:

  • Software Engineering background, either a degree or course followed by some commercial experience, or we usually find these roles suit people with upto 5 years pure commercial experience with no prior degree.

  • Skill coding in Java

  • Any exposure to Springboot Microservices or API's would be helpful but not required as we can teach this in role as long as your Java skills are to a suitable level.

  • Good all-around knowledge of the software development lifecycle, ideally within a modern Agile engineering function.

  • Good communication & teamwork skills
