Part Time Finance Officer

Surbiton, London, KT6

14 hours p/w (Hybrid working considered)

GBP12,361 + Excellent Benefits Package

12 month contract (extension subject to funding)

Established in 1994, our client is a registered charity providing independent information, support and advocacy to people who provide unpaid care for someone living in the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames. They are currently supporting over 4000 carers who are caring for someone with a disability, illness, mental health problem or substance addiction and had a turnover of nearly GBP700,000 in the last financial year from grants and donations.

They are seeking a Part-time Finance Officer to be part of their central team and track and maintain records of all income received and costs incurred by the organisation. The postholder will manage income and expenditure processes using Sage and provide comprehensive financial administration support across the business.

Recent experience of using Sage and accounting within a charity is highly desirable.

Duties of the Role:

  • Track and maintain records of all income received and costs incurred (invoices, expenses, direct debits, standing orders).
  • Ensure all transactions are entered onto Sage accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Manage bank accounts and ensure all payments and receipts are fully accounted for and that proper controls are in place.
  • Provide necessary information to service provider to ensure an accurate payroll is run each month, and that all staff, tax, NI, and pension payments are made on time.
  • Maintain key accounting spreadsheets to manage accounts entries (mainly income and payroll).
  • Maintain Finance SharePoint site as source of key finance information.
  • Support monthly reporting and year-end Financial Statements process (NB these activities are led by the Treasurer).
  • Support staff to prepare reports for funders.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of managing income and expenditure processes in a small or medium sized organisation.
  • Experience of charity accounting an advantage but not essential.
  • Experience of using Sage or similar accounting package.
  • Accuracy and an attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing key financial controls.
  • Good time management skills and an ability to prioritise workload.
  • Understanding of issues of confidentiality.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities.
