London or any of our main sites across the UK - We're happy with home working the majority of the time, however you'll need to be in office 2 days per week.

Salary & Benefits: £100,352 to £159,340 per annum (location dependent), plus annual personal bonus, 15% employer pension contribution, 4% flexible cash pot, private medical insurance, 30 days holiday plus bank holidays.

What will I focus on in this role?

The Engineering Lead is a transformational leader who works collaboratively with Labs to ensure best practice for Engineering. You'll be delivering business outcomes and realise value to customers through excellence in execution. The Lab Engineering Lead will demonstrate and apply exemplary software engineering practices and skills as well as mentor and nurture the talent at all levels of their software engineering community.

The role will work alongside the Engineers Leads and Product Owners shaping the vision for Software Engineering and as a result centre on setting the strategic direction for the engineering teams. You'll have a relentless focus on delivering business value through sound and fully rounded engineering methods and principles.

Specific activities which you'll be responsible for include things like;

  • Ensuring that all Engineering work in the Lab is carried out in line with Bank standards

  • Ensuring that they are fully aware, make decisions within and assist in the implementation and operation of the bank's security, cyber, risk and control management framework within Group standards and appetite, and are able to explain the context and engineering implications to Lab Chapters

  • Maximising the safe delegation of authority and empowerment to Lab Chapters in line with the above and in line with the core principle of Transformation

  • Championing the principles & aims of Transformation in order to guide and support teams through Transformational change, creating the right environment and culture for teams to be successful

  • Working with Product Owners, Architects and Chapter Leads to set the strategic direction, understand solution choices, whether operational or technological, and help define an incremental delivery plan

  • Leading, influencing and agreeing the strategy for the Lab and key design decisions across technology, operating model, customer experience and other design viewpoints

What do we need to see from applicants?

  • A very strong software development background, along with detailed senior knowledge of modern software development toolsets including DevOps Continuous Integration, and Delivery

  • Significant experience with agile development methods & tooling e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Jira & Confluence, and experience of leading & working in Agile

  • Have a strong ability to work and craft code, predominantly application code productions and testing for a wide variety of solutions

  • Significant and lengthy experience at a senior level in business and IT Architecture topics

  • Able to influence key stakeholders at an executive level within a divisional operating model. Credible performer in senior executive forums

  • Understand the tools and insights within other industries to effectively implement the best strategic solution for Group Transformation

  • Show the ability to effectively and inspirationally lead and develop colleagues, leading by example and coaching

  • Foster and Maintain a vibrant active Software Community across Group Transformation.
