Chief Operations Office 

Inmarsat’s Chief Operations Office (COO) plays a vital role managing the services that keep our business running and delivering to our customers. COO consists of 9 functions including: Satellite Operations, Network Operations, Service Assurance, Service Delivery Aviation and Customer Assurance, Service Delivery and Supply Chain, Project Management Office, Global Cyber Security and Group IT

Job Description

Primary role purpose:

 The Atlassian Architect is a key role that will work with several functional teams across Inmarsat’s business units to plan, design, build and administer Inmarsat’s Atlassian Cloud instances consisting primarily of Jira & Confluence. You will be a technical lead with deep understanding of Atlassian products and add-ons, working closely with stakeholders to recommend and ensure effective use of Atlassian products, evaluate new add-ons, and troubleshoot user issues.

This role will also collaborate with Inmarsat’s IT License Management and Service Desk teams to maintain license and access compliance, and with Inmarsat’s security and data governance teams to ensure data protection.

Key Responsibilities:

Administration:

  • Administer, configure, and support Access, Jira and Confluence including security policies, projects, spaces, permissions, users, groups, roles, reporting, dashboards, workflows, custom fields, issue security, add-ons, via scripting and the REST API
  • Build and maintain complex JIRA workflows, field configurations, screen schemes, permission schemes and notification schemes
  • Responsible for front-end configurations and implementing customizations
  • Install, manage and administer JIRA and Confluence add-ons, plugins and extensions
  • Troubleshoot issues, communicate with process owners, and continue to improve support processes
  • Troubleshoot application issues and add-on integration issues in Jira and Confluence working with Atlassian support

Stakeholder:

  • Serve as a lead engineer for the Atlassian suite of tools including Access, JIRA, Confluence and various plugins
  • Translate business requirements into well-architected solutions to best leverage the Atlassian suite of tools we offer
  • Recommend, test, install, and configure JIRA or Confluence add-ons and integrations where appropriate
  • Gather requirements for business processes and determine ways to optimize and improve JIRA/Confluence setup and workflows, as well as identify where functionality can/cannot meet user requests
  • Provide recommendations to users and management on best practices and standardization in implementing projects and processes within JIRA and the Atlassian suite
  • Support teams and senior executives with their reporting needs by developing actionable planning views, project metrics, and status reports/dashboards either directly in Jira or through PowerBI

Process and Governance:

  • Create training material and standard operating procedure documentation
  • Analyze, review and document current functionality to determine potential areas of improvement
  • Regularly build and update and/or advise on valuable end-user training and documentation targeted for both end-users and support teams
  • Create training material and standard operating procedure documentation
  • Provide formal and informal training to Jira users, and less experienced Jira Admins
  • Promote adoption and best practices among the Atlassian user community
  • Refine current Jira processes to be more streamlined and uniform for agile teams
  • Create, manage and support how to leverage Jira APIs for users to automate manual processes, implement business processes, data migration routines, and extract data for reporting and analytics purposes
  • Provide Jira subject matter expertise in discussions regarding governance within Jira

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • 4 or more years of experience in Atlassian Cloud JIRA and Confluence Administration
  • Experience developing mechanisms to automate manual processes
  • Excellent understanding in customizing Atlassian Cloud products, primarily JIRA and Confluence
  • Solid understanding in Atlassian Cloud access management using permission schemes, groups and roles
  • Experience with JIRA automation, subscriptions and notification schemes
  • Ability to maintain multiple JIRA projects, test plans, templates, workflows and permissions
  • Experience optimizing and improving process workflows, in addition to identifying where functionality can be improved to meet business and user requirements
  • Working with remote teams and team members 
  • Working with Agile projects and processes with multiple cross-functional teams
  • Strong stakeholder management
  • Able to motivate, lead, manage and influence
  • Strong results orientated work ethic and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with passion for excellence and innovation. Ambassador both within and outside COO for best practice in every area
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and SharePoint

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • ACP type certifications such as ACP-120 (Jira Administrator for Cloud Certification)
  • Ability to write custom JIRA Query Language (JQL)
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with stakeholders and software development personnel
  • Strong time management skills including planning, prioritization, and organization with an ability to multi-task
  • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum principles and project management methodologies
  • Ability to travel and work across cultures and time zones
  • Experience working in a complex global or multisite environment
