Job title: Functional Capability Manager (Engineering)

What you'll be doing:

    Providing leadership to Combat System engineering discipline subject matter experts in the assessment, development and deployment of improved policies processes and work instructions.Maintenance of high levels of engineering capability within the Combat Systems engineering function.Assessing and reacting to the SQEP functional capability based on future needs of the business.Establishing appropriate and effective measures of engineering delivery performance.Collation and provision of engineering function metrics to support strategic decision making.Supporting the recruitment and deployment of staff in concert with department heads and line managers.Ensuring the development of engineers by recommending both appropriate functional training and career development options.Ensuring consistent ways of working across programmes within the engineering function.Ensuring that the requirements for engineering systems and tools are clearly defined in support of functional needs.Liaison with stakeholders within the programme delivery framework to address and resolve engineering, process and governance issues.Identifying and implementing performance improvements to Integrated Combat System programme engineering delivery.You'll also have people manager responsibilities in this role.
Your skills and experiences:

    You will be an experienced manager or leader with an engineering background leading teams to analyse, improve, implement and measure improvements to policies, processes and work instructions.You'll have an excellent understanding of the system development lifecycle, preferably in the defence industry, against the standard 'V-model' from requirement definition to customer acceptance.You'll have a degree level qualification in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science) or equivalent industry experience.

The Functional Capability team:

You will be leading a team of experienced engineers to support and improve the capability of the engineering delivery teams who develop the heart of the submarine, the Combat System. For the right candidate, training can be offered in some areas to support career development and achievement of Chartered Engineer status as recognised by The Engineering Council.
