What you'll be doing:

    Leading the development and implementation of SHE strategy, policy and objectives in line with organisational goals.Provide competent and comprehensive governance, advice and support to line leaders, enabling them to effectively manage SHE within their area of responsibility.Effectively lead SHE professionals, developing functional capabilities, ensuring SHE resources are deployed to best effect and that talent is managed appropriately.Develop and maintain a suitable SHE management system that meets the requirements of our Operational Framework, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 and supports the achievement of broader organisational goals.Develop and implement innovative SHE change programmes, ensuring consistency and effective improvement in risk management and embedding a culture of continuous improvement and the sharing of best practice.Collaborate with key stakeholders, such as Management Committee members and line managers, influencing them to integrate SHE into existing business processes for decision making at strategic, operational and tactical level.When required, represent the line of business to contribute to sector or UK level SHE activities.Monitor the effectiveness, and provide regular reports, on all of the above to relevant stakeholders.You'll also have people manager responsibilities in this role.
Your skills and experiences:

    Experienced SHE leader, competent and time served in a senior role within engineering or manufacturing industry.Confidence in managing diverse teams and passionate about developing and in turn learning from others.Effective in building relationships and influencing at all levels within an organisation, irrespective of seniority, internal and external, including regulatory bodies and customers.Actively maintains external networks with other professionals, personal contemporary SHE knowledge and is adept at influencing change as a result of new learning.Is a quick thinker and able to create a vision for themselves, their team and business and translate this into strategic actions.The role holder is required to hold one or more of the following QCF/NQF Level 5 (or higher) SHE qualifications:
NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

Level 5 NVQ in Occupational Safety and Health Practice

Level 6 NCRQ Diploma in Applied Health and Safety

NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management

Safety, Health and/or Environmental Honours Degree (Bachelors or Higher)

Equivalent qualification in Safety, Health and/or Environmental subject.

    Typically holds a minimum of five years post-qualification experience and more than ten years' experience in applying SHE knowledge and processes in work-related situations.Chartered membership of an appropriate professional safety, health and/or environmental institution is desirable but not essential.

The SHE team:

This is a great opportunity where you will be directly leading a team of circa 15 site-based SHE practitioners who you will be required to mentor and develop. You will work closely with other SHE team members (circa 90) and colleagues (circa 10,000) from submarine delivery programmes, support and enabling functions in addition to various supply chain organisations.
