Shape the narrative of one of the most urgent stories of our times.

Job share opportunity - 3 days (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday)

Location: Cardiff / Glasgow / London

We have a rare and brilliant job-share opportunity at a senior level in one of the busiest and high-profile press offices in the country.

Do you cherish a genuine work/life balance, and crave more time outside of work but, as a brilliant media professional with a flourishing career, you haven’t been able to find the right opportunity? If you’re searching for the role that allows you to continue to progress your hard earned and fantastic reputation as a seriously talented senior media operator, look no further!

You’ll work Monday to Wednesday, with one day overlapping with your partner to allow for seamless handovers and creative collaboration.

Energy is the news every day. As Great Britain’s independent energy regulator, we’re also in the news more than ever. Global gas prices are putting pressure on both consumers and energy companies. We’re also supporting the government’s climate agenda by helping to transform how we generate electricity, drive our cars and heat our homes.

All this work rightly attracts close scrutiny from the media, political stakeholders, consumer groups and the energy industry. So your role within our external communications team is crucial to our success. It’s a tight-knit group, who’ll give you lots of support as you work on a range of issues.

By extension, you’ll play a part in reassuring consumers that energy supplies will continue and their credit will be protected during a hugely unsettling time. There’ll also be opportunities to carefully develop longer-term, proactive media engagement strategies.

In practice, you can expect to work with a wide range of senior Ofgem figures and colleagues at BEIS (Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy), as well as print and broadcast media heads. You’ll help colleagues respond to enquiries and interview requests, write press releases, briefing papers and Q&As, prepare spokespeople for interviews, and assess, develop and roll our media plans.

Energy experience would be useful, but is by no means essential. The pace is fast, and much of the narrative is complex. So it follows that an impressive background handling high profile media relations is more important. We’re looking for a deeply experienced media manager who can instantly settle in, and add value to every story.

Once you’re established, you won’t be surprised to know that you’ll join an out of hours media rota. Right now, it’s very busy.

We welcome candidates from all backgrounds, and especially welcome individuals from underrepresented groups.

Salary: London £46,250 - £59,999/ Glasgow/Cardiff £43,650 - £55,999 (full time equivalent salary). Plus £3,000 (non-contractual, per annum, pro rata) out of hours allowance.
