Location: London or Edinburgh (1-2 days per week in the office and the rest hybrid working from home). We are very flexible employers and don't stick to the normal 9-5. Within reason you can work hours to suit your lifestyle. We're very family friendly as a company.

Salary & Benefits: £70,784 to 102,410 (depending on experience & location) base salary, plus annual personal bonus, 15% employer pension contribution (when you put in 6%), 4% flexible cash pot, private medical insurance, 30 days holiday plus bank holidays.

We're looking for someone who has experience leading mobile application development and is excited at the opportunity to develop a new way to support our customers. You'll be inspiring and customer-obsessed, ensuring that the team are always focused on the priorities that will deliver the best outcomes for our customers and colleagues.

What you'll be responsible for?

We are looking for an Engineering Lead to build and manage a team in the creation of a new mobile offering. You'll be working alongside a Product Owner to shape the vision for your workstreams, set direction for the engineering teams and lead technical delivery across the entire lifecycle, from idea to realisation of value.

Your team will understand the needs of the client, then design and develop solutions to meet these needs. You'll own the development of engineering skills and ways of working for the future - alongside a challenging delivery agenda of course!

You'll work with your team to increase engineering efficiency, quality and release velocity whilst recruiting, retaining, and developing engineering talent within the Lab. You'll be responsible for a fairly large team of up to 20 Android and iOS software engineers, working cross functionally with a range of other engineering teams. You'll focus on leadership 90% of the time, only dipping into being hands on as needed to support your Engineers.

What do we need to see in your application?

We like people who come from diverse industry and cultural backgrounds but as a minimum to be successful in the role and secure an interview we would need to see evidence of the following in your CV;

  • Experience working as a Mobile Engineering Senior Manager or someone who has been acting up into a senior management role and ready to take the leap.

  • Proven track record creating mobile applications, able to share experience of development approach, tooling, security, and application management

  • Strong people leadership skills. You'll be responsible for between 20-30 colleagues in this role, setting direction and inspiring delivery

  • Technical experience leading teams developing single page applications, micro services, and APIs would be advantageous - (front end / back-end development)

  • Modern Engineering practice knowledge, including Agile working, DevOps, CI/DI, TDD, use of cloud technology etc.
