General Manager

We are looking to recruit a General Manager to manage the day-to-day running of a community enterprise operating a collection of workspaces for traditional and modern craftspeople within one of the UK’s most important historical industrial buildings.

Position: General Manager

Location: Sheffield

Hours: Part-time, 24 hours a week

  • Full time rate is £37,000 per annum, therefore pro-rata for 24 hours a week is £22,200 per annum.

Contract: Fixed term for 2 years (with the possibility to extend)

Closing Date: Midnight, Sunday 11th September

The Role

As General Manager, you will liaise with tenants, building administration, health and safety, office administration, budget monitoring and the delivery of strategies agreed by Board of Directors.

Main duties include:

Management of tenants

  • Liaison with tenants, and ensuring PWLS meets its statutory obligations and acts as a good landlord
  • Identify and recommend potential new tenants, issuing leases and dealing with queries
  • Rents: chase outstanding sums and manage rent review process

Building Management

  • Ensuring cleanliness of the estate and availability of cleaning supplies
  • Monitoring of building condition and need for repairs and maintenance
  • Manage utility bills and office administration
  • Responding to emergencies

Health and Safety

  • Ensuring policies are in place and implemented, and are regularly reviewed
  • Ensuring staff and volunteers follow safety procedures
  • Ensuring supply of PPE and that first aid legal requirements are met

Volunteer Management

  • Source, recruit and induct volunteers
  • Management and tasking of Outreach volunteers

External Relations

  • Initial point of contact for external stakeholders
  • Identify and develop opportunities for appropriate collaboration and additional resources
  • Deal with routine visitors to the Works
  • Initial point of contact for media relations and publicity
  • Planning and management of open days, including Heritage Open Days

There is also an opportunity to work 16 hours per week as a Building Works Supervisor supporting this role.

About You

We are looking for a General Manager with an awareness of building maintenance requirements and an interest in historic buildings.

You will have:

  • Previous experience of building management and/or running an office
  • A good understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace
  • Solid administration experience
  • Experience of working with contractors and suppliers
  • Experience of carrying out risk assessments
  • Experience of managing projects
